The Premier League continues this weekend, and the highlight of the 3pm kick-offs is undoubtedly Brighton’s trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. The Seagulls were torn apart by Cole Palmer in the same fixture 12 months ago, but Fabian Hürzeler will be hoping for a different outcome this time around.

Chelsea have endured a difficult 10 days. A defeat to Bayern Munich was compounded by an error-strewn performance away at Old Trafford, where Robert Sánchez was sent off and Manchester United came away with a 2-1 win. While a victory against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup provided some relief, the performance will have done little to please Enzo Maresca, with the Imps frequently threatening Chelsea’s backline. To make matters worse, Palmer continues to struggle with a groin injury, and the team simply doesn’t look the same without him.

For Brighton, their start to the Premier League season has been a picture of inconsistency. Earning four points from games against Tottenham and Manchester City will have encouraged fans, but defeats to the likes of Everton and Bournemouth have been disappointing. Midweek brought an impressive League Cup performance against Barnsley, with Paraguayan winger Diego Gómez scoring four in a 6–0 win. That display may have done enough to earn the 22-year-old a spot in the starting XI, but the spotlight will remain on the likes of Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh, both of whom have impressed so far this season.
