We didn't know it at the time (although many may have suspected as much), but Geelong and Brisbane have already served up three AFL Grand Final previews this season. The Cats' sole victory came in the Qualifying Final three weeks ago, but Chris Scott's men shouldn't take too much comfort from that.
That's because four of the last five AFL Grand Finals that were reruns of Qualifying Finals ended up going the other way on the big stage. Added to that, Geelong have lost five-time All-Australian Tom Stewart to a concussion, while Brisbane have got Lachie Neale back after a remarkably quick recovery from a calf injury.
The Lions beat Geelong at home and away this season, took them down in the Prelims en route to the premiers a year ago, and will fancy their chances of repeating the trick at the MCG. But Chris Fagan's men aren't totally infallible, as exhibited by their defeat in the 2023 Granny.
In many ways it's a thoroughly satisfying matchup, as Geelong and Brisbane were both superb down the stretch and, in Patrick Dangerfield, Bailey Smith and Harris Andrews, have the personnel to light up the season finale.
