  • Prime Video has revealed the first artwork for The Boys season 5
  • The posters appear to tease some potentially big story details
  • A release date and trailer are all but certain to be released very soon, too

The countdown is officially on to The Boys season 5 after Prime Video revealed the first artwork for the hit series' final installment.

Released yesterday (December 3), two posters – one featuring Billy Butcher, the other Homelander – give us our first look at the Amazon TV Original's last hurrah. And, hoo boy, do they tease how the satirical superhero series could end when it arrives next year.

Unsurprisingly, the Butcher-starring one-sheet shows Karl Urban's duplicitous character standing amid the ruins of Vought Tower. Butcher has been hell-bent on destroying arch-nemesis Homelander and the Supe-manufacturing corporation throughout the show, so nobody will be shocked if he manages to achieve his objective.

The Homelander poster presents a potentially bleak outlook for one of the best Prime Video shows' fifth and final season, though. It shows the evil Superman-inspired character looking down on planet Earth as numerous explosions go off across the United States.

Considering what happened in last season's finale – remind yourself by reading my The Boys season 4 ending explained piece – none of us should be stunned about the prospect of Homelander having nuclear weapons at his disposal.

Nonetheless, some eagle-eyed fans on the ResetEra forums have suggested that said bombs appear to have been dropped on Iowa. Given Annie January/Starlight, hails from the city of des Moines, Iowa, some believe Homelander could use his nuclear arsenal to decimate her home state to prove how powerful he truly is now. If that ends up happening, it'll be even more heartbreak for the fan-favorite Starlight who's already endured enough trauma to last a lifetime.

Does The Boys season 5 have a release date and/or trailer yet?

Nope, but you can expect both to be announced in the very near future.

The 2025 edition of Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP) officially kicks off today (December 4) and, as confirmed on The Boys' social media channels in November, showrunner Eric Kripke and some of the series' cast will be in attendance.

A season 5 panel is due to take place on Saturday, December 6 at 8pm local time (that's 3pm PT and 11pm GMT), too, and it'll not only celebrate the show's five-season run, but also see Kripke and company share some insights about its final installment. I would be very surprised, then, if season 5's first teaser and official release date – or, at the very least, launch month – aren't announced.
