- America's Cup 2026/27: May 21, 2026 – July 18, 2027 (schedule below)
The 2027 America's Cup cycle begins at the Gulf of Angels off the coast of Sardinia, for the first of the preliminary regattas. Although the four-day Sardinia meet doesn't count towards the America’s Cup match proper – which is set for July 2027 – it will offer the clearest indication yet of where each team stands.
Since all eight teams are racing identical AC40 yachts, which are smaller than the AC75s that will feature in the America's Cup proper, they're competing on a level playing field, where skill, strategy, teamwork, human error and human excellence will determine the outcome.
And a significant tweak to the format has further raised the stakes. For the first time in the modern era, each team is allowed to field two entries: a boat crewed by their first-choice squad and another helmed by the stars of their Women & Youth setups. Impress in the preliminaries and they might even earn a seat at the top table.
While Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa and GB1 have each taken up this option, Sardinia has come too soon for Team Australia and America Racing Challenger Team USA, who are sitting the event out entirely. Tudor Team Alinghi and La Roche Posay Racing are fielding a boat apiece, which makes for a fleet of eight.
Olympic gold medallist and 2024 America’s Cup winner Nathan Outteridge is skippering Emirates Team New Zealand's principal team, who are the reigning champions.
There will be eight fleet races altogether, including up to three on both Friday and Saturday. A minimum of two fleet races will take place on Sunday, before a winner-take-all showdown between the top two teams.
