FAQs

How much does Shopify cost?

At the time of writing, Shopify offers four plans - Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus - with prices starting from £25 per month (for Basic) and rising to £1800 a month (for Plus for business). Many plans are offered at £1 a month for the first 3 months if you're a new subscribers, and you can also choose to opt for an annual instead of monthly payment cycle, giving you a 25% discount across the duration of your plan (although at a higher upfront cost).

Does Shopify offer a free trial?

Shopify offers 3-day free trials on many of its plans, during which period customers can test out many of the brand's paid functionality to see if its right for them before they commit. If you choose a paid plan when you sign up, this will automatically be purchased once your trial period ends, but you can also get a free trial without choosing a set plan - doing so means your account will simply be frozen when the 3 days end until you choose a plan. You can switch plans during your free trial to try different features, but this does not extend your trial period.

Shopify recommends you try a number of things on your free trial, including: adding products to your store and seeing they display correctly; creating collections to help customers navigate your site; exploring the settings (particularly around taxes and shipping), setting up payments and verifying your chosen third-party payment platform is supported; and exploring the theme and app stores. Note that although these features are free during your trial, adding apps may still incur charges.

Does Shopify offer any free tools?

Yes, you'll find a suite of free business tools on the Shopify website, including logo, slogan and business card makers; purchase order, shipping label, and bill of lading templates; business loan and profit margin calculators; an image resizer; and generators to help you create business names, domain names, pay stubs, QR codes and barcodes, as well as handy documents such as invoices, terms and conditions, and privacy and refund policies.

Can I build my website with Shopify?

If you don't already have a website and are looking to create one for your online store, a Shopify plan also gives you access to the brand's web builder, which lets you choose from a range of easy-to-use templates to get started.

You can use bespoke blocks in the builder to layout your site, or if you have a little more technical knowledge, you can also create your own theme from scratch, use Shopify's headless stack, Hydrogen, for create control over your back and front end, or choose your own stack using APIs.

If you're looking for guidance or inspiration, you'll also find plenty of examples of good eCommerce websites in the Shopify blog, as well as helpful tips to let you create the best layout for your needs.

Shopify Saving tips

Choose the right plan

When choosing a Shopify plan, take a look at the features on offer and make sure you'd use them all before you sign up. For example, the Grow plan comes in at £65 a month, but unless you need multiple staff accounts, you could easily get by with the Basic plan, which only costs £25 a month. Make sure to check the card rates and maximum credit limits too - although these tend to get more appealing the higher you climb through the tiers, you may find the limits on the lower tiers perfectly suitable for your needs.

Pay yearly to save

Shopify customers will find a range of plans on offer, with each giving you the option to pay monthly or yearly. If you can foot the higher upfront cost, paying yearly will save you 25% in the long run, making it well worth doing once you've found the plan for you.

You can also choose a 3-year plan for Shopify Plus, which is discounted each month and offers lower online variable platform fees. Not sure which plan is the right pick for you? Make the most of your 3-day free trial to test out the features and help you decide.

How we source coupon codes

Whether it's through our affiliate networks, the depths of the world wide web, or our connections with big name brands, here at TechRadar we use every tool at our disposal to source the latest codes.

Our coupons team updates each of our pages multiple times a week with the most recent deals, including exclusive coupons negotiated by our Commercial team. We also include the latest sales info directly from retailers to offer the most up-to-date discounts around.

How we test coupon codes

Each coupon you find on TechRadar has been tested before being uploaded by our dedicated Deals & Offers teams. You’ll see a range of offers, from free shipping to student discounts, with savings available on all kinds of products & services. To make sure every coupon is ready to use, we don’t list any user-specific or one-time codes.

We also include all relevant information about coupons, such as expiry dates and any terms & conditions, near the ‘Get Code’ button. You can see the details for an individual offer by clicking on the ‘Terms & Conditions’ text below the code and expanding the code area.

What to do if a coupon code doesn’t work

Although we do our best to ensure all listed codes are tried & tested, sometimes coupons expire or terms & conditions are changed before we can update pages. Our team works hard to make sure our coupons are active and work as intended, and should you encounter an issue when using one, we’ll work just as hard to help.

The best place to start is by checking the requirements. Click “View terms and conditions” to expand the code section and see any guidance on your chosen coupon. For example, you may need to meet a minimum spend, add other items to your basket to qualify for a multibuy offer, or confirm that your chosen code applies to the items in your basket (i.e. 10% off laptops).

If you’re still having issues using your code, you can email our customer service team on coupons.techradar@futurenet.com. Include as many details as possible - such as which code you used and which coupon page it’s listed on so our team can address your issue as fast as possible.

How we make money

When it comes to coupons, TechRadar earns money via a commission-based model. For every brand we have a coupon page for, we’ve negotiated a deal that means we earn a percentage of total basket value in commission back from every order.

Using this model means we can offer our coupons to our customers free of charge. You won’t pay any fees to add your chosen coupon to your basket - you’ll simply pay the final order total once your discount has been applied.
