FAQs

What products does TechSmith offer?

TechSmith offers a suite of software designed to support screen capture, and recording & creation of images and videos. These products include Snagit (for screen capture), Camtasia (another screen capture tool with professional video editing features), Screencast (where you can host & share videos) and Audiate (a text-based audio editor). Users can also find a number of additional assets libraries, some free and some paid, which offer more resources for creating & editing images & videos.

How much does TechSmith cost?

That depends on the product & the tier of plan you choose. For example, Snagit is available for free, you can choose to upgrade to Pro, which can be purchased per month for $9.99 a month, or for a year for $99.99. Screencast is similar, offering a free version or Pro for either $.99 per month or $99.99 per year.

There is only one tier of Audiate, which costs $199.99 per year. Camtasia, however, offers three tiers of plan: Essentials ($15 per month), Create ($21 per month) and Pro ($50 per month), as well as plans for business & education, with prices ranging for $45 to $198 per year.

Does TechSmith offer a free trial?

Yes, TechSmith offers free plans for a number of its products, with trial period durations varying from software to software. For example, Snagit offers a 15-day free trial, whereas Camtasia's free trial is unlimited, but you'll need to sign up to a paid plan if you want to start removing watermarks, and Screencast offers a 12-month free trial that expires when you've recorded your 25th video. Be sure to check the terms of the free trial for your chosen plan before you sign up.

TechSmith Saving tips

Opt for annual plans

Although there aren't options to pay monthly for every TechSmith product, those that do offer this alternative tend to offer discounts when you pay for 12 months instead of choosing a per-month plan. Snagit Pro is a great example: you can sign up monthly for $9.99 a month, or you can choose the annual option for $99.99, which effectively gives you 15% off.

Get a student discount

TechSmith offers student discounts on a number of its plans, which offer as much as 50% off when you verify your status as a student. To do so, simply sign in with a valid Student Beans account before you reach the checkout and your discount will be applied to your order. The brand also offers educator discounts for teachers & professors, which are accessible through the student discount section.

Choose the right plan for you

For some products, TechSmith offers a number of different tiers of plan. You'll usually find that the more advanced plans include more features and cost more, so make sure to check the list of features for your chosen plan before you buy.

For example, if you're looking to sign up to Camtastia and are considering the Create plan, but you don't need AI-generated scripts, audio clean-up and additional voices & style, choosing the Essentials plan can save you $6 per month on your recording & editing software.

Get free versions & assets

Customers will find a free version of Screencast, as well as free assets for Camtastia and Snaggit, available to download from the TechSmith website. If you're looking to get more out of your paid plan for Camtastia & Snaggit, or (in the case of Screencast) save on paying for a plan at all, these can be handy ways to do so.

How we source coupon codes

Whether it's through our affiliate networks, the depths of the world wide web, or our connections with big name brands, here at TechRadar we use every tool at our disposal to source the latest codes. Our coupons team updates each of our pages multiple times a week with the most recent deals, including exclusive coupons negotiated by our Commercial team. We also include the latest sales info directly from retailers to offer the most up-to-date discounts around.

How we test coupon codes

Each coupon you find on TechRadar has been tested before being uploaded by our dedicated Deals & Offers teams. You’ll see a range of offers, from free shipping to student discounts, with savings available on all kinds of products & services. To make sure every coupon is ready to use, we don’t list any user-specific or one-time codes.

We also include all relevant information about coupons, such as expiry dates and any terms & conditions, near the ‘Get Code’ button. You can see the details for an individual offer by clicking on the ‘Terms & Conditions’ text below the code and expanding the code area.

What to do if a coupon code doesn’t work

Although we do our best to ensure all listed codes are tried & tested, sometimes coupons expire or terms & conditions are changed before we can update pages. Our team works hard to make sure our coupons are active and work as intended, and should you encounter an issue when using one, we’ll work just as hard to help.

The best place to start is by checking the requirements. Click “View terms and conditions” to expand the code section and see any guidance on your chosen coupon. For example, you may need to meet a minimum spend, add other items to your basket to qualify for a multibuy offer, or confirm that your chosen code applies to the items in your basket (i.e. 10% off laptops).

If you’re still having issues using your code, you can email our customer service team on coupons.techradar@futurenet.com. Include as many details as possible - such as which code you used and which coupon page it’s listed on so our team can address your issue as fast as possible.

How we make money

When it comes to coupons, TechRadar earns money via a commission-based model. For every brand we have a coupon page for, we’ve negotiated a deal that means we earn a percentage of total basket value in commission back from every order.

Using this model means we can offer our coupons to our customers free of charge. You won’t pay any fees to add your chosen coupon to your basket - you’ll simply pay the final order total once your discount has been applied.
