Coppa Italia Final 2026: Preview
The teams faced off in a dress rehearsal on Saturday, a game that neither Maurizio Sarri, his players or Lazio's fans will want to dwell on. They were already 2-0 down when Alessio Romagnoli saw red early in the second half, courtesy of goals from Lautaro Martinez and Petar Sucic. Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it three.
The generous reading is that Sarri fielded a changed side, and the players themselves were saving themselves for this final. Then again, the Biancocelesti have lost seven of their last nine encounters with Inter, drawing the other two. The aggregate scoreline from these teams' last three meetings in Rome: 0-11.
But there's no greater motivation than silverware, especially for a club that last won a trophy – the Coppa Italia – in 2019. After the defeat by the Nerazzurri at the weekend, the Coccarda is now also their only route back to European football.
Lazio's issue is goals. Gustav Isaksen and Tijjani Noslin are their joint-top scorers with only five each, and as thrilling as their route through the competition has been, featuring a victory over AC Milan and penalty shootouts against holders Bologna and Atalanta, Inter are tough to contain.
They've failed to find the net in just four of the 51 games they've played this season. In fact, this has been their most prolific goalscoring campaign since 1929/30. Lautaro, Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu, who's currently out of action with a thigh injury, are all well into double figures, and several teammates could well join them.
Lazio do, however, have players for big occasions. Pedro's late double famously crushed Inter's title hopes on the penultimate weekend of last season, while Edoardo Motta saved four of Atalanta’s five penalties to send Le Aquile into the final riding a sense of destiny.
What is the 2026 Coppa Italia final 2026 start time?

11-time winners Lazio last reached the Coppa Italia final in 2019; 16-time winners Inter Milan in 2023.
The Biancocelesti have been beaten finalists on three occasions; the Nerazzurri on six.
What is the Lazio vs Inter Milan head-to-head?
Lazio and Inter Milan have contested 55 competitive games. Lazio have won 13 of them, and Inter Milan 30. 12 have ended all-square.
