We at TechRadar like to think that our website can teach you a few things about the world of tech, enlightening you about subjects as far-reaching as space missions and Japanese robots.

Sometimes a technology day comes along, however, when, well, not much happens. Not that you would notice, as our site is always packed with a bucketload of stories, but it has meant that we have had to search that little bit further and that little bit wider for a scoop.

And we were glad we did, as we found a beauty of a story involving a car that travels faster than your nan racing to the shops, a cool 1,000mph – a land-speed record.

While we were gawping at said speedy vehicle, Google announced it can now fire off automatic email responses for you, meaning that you'll never have to exert any energy replying to your boring so-called mates again.

Google's speedy service means you now have plenty of time to do something much more constructive, like watching full-length movies on YouTube for the first time ever. Or checking your emails on the toilet – come on, one in 10 of you apparently do it!

If you are worried about your little 'uns watching unsuitable content on the web (like psychedelic drug-inducing re-runs of The Teletubbies) the EU has passed a child safety bill for the internet.

Bill Gates reared his head again after the debacle of his link-up with Jerry Seinfeld to announce the launch of a new company – the mysteriously named bgC3.

In the world of home cinema, there were two pretty big announcements. The first was LaCie, who has created an achingly cool hard drive, ready for HD content, which can connect up to any HDTV. The second was Samsung announcing that it is to add movie streaming to its Blu-ray players.

If you don't fancy watching movies from your Blu-ray player, then maybe mobile TV is for you. Like garlic bread, it's the future apparently.

And finally, Nigel's eco store is selling the rather brilliant cardboard iPod speaker system. For a tad under £20, even if it is rubbish at least we'll all have the beginning of a home when the credit crunch finally kicks us out of our abodes.
