The hi-fi and AV market is alive and well, if this year's Bristol hi-fi show is anything to go by.
But but those who go looking for a bargain might well end up disappointed. Kit prices are clearly going up, as manufacturers find they're unable to swallow rises caused by current unfavourable yen/dollar/euro/ currency fluctuations.
Show spokesman Rob Follis said that a queue 500 strong stood outside the Bristol Marriot City hotel on Friday morning, and more than 160 exhibitors enjoyed brisk traffic during the first day.
Speaking at the event, Nick Smith from market analysts gfk dismissed talk of recession, saying "'there's plenty of business out there when it comes to consumer electronics, the disc player market is being driven by sales of Blu-ray and sales of AV receivers are strong.'
