A virtual private network specifically for gamers

Tunngle

Designed specifically for gamers, Tunngle can perform a clever trick: it can make your PC think the internet is a local area network, enabling you to play local multiplayer games with people from the other side of the planet. It does this via the magic of virtual private networking (or VPN for short).

With Tunngle you can create or join a network that’s just you and your fellow gamers. Your PC thinks they’re all on your LAN. Clever, eh?

Why you need it

Because sometimes friends aren’t close enough for LAN multiplayer - and because sometimes the online component of classic games gets shut down, rendering the multiplayer element redundant.

With Tunngle you can bring those games back to life via LAN over the VPN. There’s also a bunch of additional features including chat and messaging. The free version is ad-supported and isn’t limited, although if you want power user features such as a static IP address or the ability to change your nickname you’ll need one of the premium plans.

You don’t need to shell out to enjoy the gaming features, though – you can have private networks of up to 32 players and public networks of up to 255 players without paying a cent.
