This day (4 April) was a special one in 1975. It didn't seem like it at the time, but it was to shape the world we live in. On that day, Bill Gates and Paul Allen decided to create a partnership which they called Microsoft – although it wasn't actually called that at the time.

Seems crazy now doesn't it? That two BASIC programmers from Seattle should found what was to become one of the main forces of the technological age. Quite incredible. Wired has a full timeline of the Microsoft gestation during the mid-1970s. Very interesting reading indeed.
