On account of Wrexham being owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and Tom Brady holding a minority stake in Birmingham City, there's a lot of interest in tonight's EFL Championship 2025/26 clash from across the pond in the US, though anyone attempting to brand it the "Hollywood derby" may wish to consult a map.

Both teams won promotion last season, which saw the Blues get the better of Wrexham at home before holding them to a draw at the Racecourse Ground, where Phil Parkinson's men are yet to register a league victory this term. The Reds took a while to adjust to the step-up in quality, but they're now unbeaten in three, and have lost just one in eight in all competitions.

They sit in 15th, two points behind 11th-placed Birmingham, whose healthy league position belies their feeble goal return. They're the Championship's third-lowest scorers, with only Jay Stansfield managing to find the net more than twice so far. Demarai Gray, however, finally opened his account on Tuesday. While their home form is the best in the league, they've lost three straight away games without scoring.

The opposite is true for Wrexham, who've scored the third-most goals in the division. The combined efforts of Kieffer Moore, Lewis O'Brien and Issa Kabore, however, have largely come a cropper to goings-on at the other end. They've conceded more than all but three teams, though Dominic Hyam has had a transformative effect since his deadline day signing.

The Birmingham project is the highest-profile attempt at aping the Wrexham model, but results have been patchy. Brady's arrival triggered the sacking of John Eustace – under whom the Blues were chasing Premier League promotion – for Wayne Rooney, and they were duly relegated for the first time in 13 years.

Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues, a cynical rip-off of Welcome to Wrexham, has been panned and, unlike McElhenney and Reynolds, who've taken great care to respect the game's traditions, Birmingham co-owner and chairman Tom Wagner is open to moving fixtures overseas and trying to make the Premier League a closed shop, should the Blues get there.
