Curious about the cost of Prime Video in 2025? We've got everything you need to know about the price of one of the best streaming services available today.

The most affordable and cost-effective way to sign up to Prime Video is through an Amazon Prime membership, which throws in a subscription to the service's ad-supported plan along with shopping perks like next day delivery.

Depending on where you live, though, you can also sign up to a Prime Video subscription on its own. This gives you full access to the streaming service's library of movies and shows without having to be an Amazon Prime member.

Here's everything you need to know about the cost of Prime Video, including how much it currently is, which plans are available, how it compares to rival services, whether there are any deals and if it's right for you.

Because Prime Video is included in an Amazon Prime subscription, it offers a unique selling point compared to rival streaming services. Given that you can get a subscription as a perk, we often rate it among the best for value.

However, this also means that any time that Amazon decides to increase the cost of membership, which notably there hasn't been since the Amazon Prime price hike in 2022, the price of Prime Video indirectly goes up.

Prime Video itself has also seen the price of its standalone service go up, however, not in a traditional sense. At the start of 2024, Amazon launched a new ad-free tier that meant existing subscribers started to see ads unless they paid more. That meant that subscribers had to pay an extra $2.99 a month in the US, £2.99 per month in the UK and AU$2.99 a month in Australia.

Here's how much the Prime Video cost changes depending on where you live. Please note that these prices are only for if you purchase Prime Video's ad-supported plan as a standalone service without the Amazon Prime subscription.

Before the introduction of ads on Prime Video, the service had only one plan. Much like Apple TV+, it throws in features like higher quality streaming, including 4K and HDR on select titles, all into the one fee.

Most rival services have varying tiers to help justify the higher price tags, which means that you often have to pay more to be able to access 4K and Dolby Atmos or be able to download content to watch offline.

Amazon has maintained these features in the ad-supported plan, so if you pay extra to remove ads, there aren't any other features or benefits that it unlocks – it simply means you don't have to put up with commercials.

While Amazon's decision to start charging extra for an ad-free version of the streaming service was met with some criticism, especially because it continues to increase the number of ads you see since its introduction, one could argue that it's still worth it given all the benefits that you receive.

Prime Video is one of the cheapest streaming services, when comparing the cost of a standalone subscription to major competitors. Even beating Apple TV+ and Paramount+, two of the smallest rivals.

That said, when combined with the cost of an Amazon Prime membership, it becomes one of the most expensive, putting it in line with the a premium Netflix or HBO Max subscription.

If you're curious how the Prime Video cost compares to rival best streaming services, I've compared the prices below. Please note: each price is the equivalent of a standard, ad-free version without any add-ons. If you are interested in ad-supported tiers or premium ones, please be aware these prices will vary.

Are there any Prime Video deals?

Prime Video doesn't tend to feature among the best streaming deals, however, Amazon does offer promotions for content on the platform itself. Whether its a cheap add-on subscription that you can bundle with Prime Video or a discounted movie or TV that you want to rent or buy, there are savings to be had.

You can also save money on a Prime Video subscription through Amazon Prime Student, which offers a discounted membership for students, so if you're heading off to university, it's well worth grabbing. It's available in the US and the UK, as well as several other regions that already offer the subscription.

Additionally, new customers (and ex-members of 12-months or more) remain entitled to a 30-day Prime Video free trial, which is a great way to try out the service completely for free before committing to a subscription.

Right now, Prime Video has some big savings to be had as part of the 13 best Prime Day streaming deals we've sported. These include 29 Prime Video add-on subscriptions that have unmissable discounts – some as low as $0.99. This is a great way to try out several different streaming services at once, as it combines them all into one package. For more information about these deals, see below.

There are several perks to having an Amazon Prime membership, but one of the best is that you get access to the Prime Video streaming service, which has the biggest library of movies we've seen. You can also sign up for a 30-day free trial right here or a six-month free trial for 18-24 year olds.

Prime Video add-on subscriptions: 29 streaming services have unmissable discounts
It's a great time to be a Prime Video subscriber, because Amazon has discounted 29 subscription add-ons to as low as $0.99. This is a great way to try out several different streaming services as it allows you to bundle it all into one neat subscription. The deal period is only for two-months, though, which means after that time the additional subscription will convert to the full monthly price. You have until the final day of this year's Prime Day sale (July 11) before this deal expires. I'll run through some of the individual option below.

Is Prime Video worth the price?

Prime Video is well worth the cost due to just how much content you can unlock from its catalog – it has one of the biggest movie libraries of all the major streamers. Some of the biggest streaming hits have found a home on Prime Video, including the Fallout TV series, the dark superhero series The Boys, fantasy epic The Rings of Power, and the documentary series Clarkson's Farm. For more on that, check out the best Prime Video shows here.

If you're a frequent Amazon shopper or you want other benefits like gaming and books, I would highly recommend signing up for a membership. Not only will you have access to one of the biggest streaming services when you do, but you'll also get a host of other benefits too. These include free one-day and same-day delivery on eligible items, exclusive deals, and access to Prime Reading and Prime Gaming, so you do get a lot for your money.
