No need to wait until later today to get the official word: this morning AT&T announced it will exclusively carry the LG Optimus G Pro.

There was no question an LG event scheduled for 3:30 p.m. PDT/6:30 p.m. EDT would herald the 5.5-inch screened device's arrival in the States, but now we know which carrier has secured rights to carry the device and locked down all the specs.

This hefty handset goes up for pre-order Friday, with retail availability starting May 10. AT&T is putting the G Pro on the block for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

To sweeten the deal, AT&T is offering a free Quick Cover black folio case to pre-order customers while supplies last.

Spec-ial

The expansive 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS display is home to 400ppi, enough pixels to let photos taken with the Pro's 13MP Full HD rear camera shine.

A 2.1MP snapper is situated on the front, and both cameras possess a Dual Recording feature that lets videographers record with both cameras at the same time.

Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is the sugar keeping this Pro running, while a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.7GHz quad-core processor keeps the phone's proverbial motor humming.

Rounding out the specs the G Pro features 2GB of RAM, a 3,140mAh battery and 32GB of on-board storage that can be bumped up to 64GB for a total of 96GB.

It's loaded with some nice extras, including QuickRemote, an app that turns the Pro into a universal controller for TVs, Blu-Ray players and set-top boxes. There's also QSlide 2.0, which lets users overlay two application windows onto an existing open application.
