O2 - already the last UK network to offer the HTC Desire - has confirmed the phone will take a little longer to appear.
According to O2's blog, the testing of the Desire on its network has thrown up a few issues its keen to resolve before launch:
"Unfortunately the testing we carry out to make sure the phone's ready for launch has taken longer than we had hoped, meaning we won't be able to launch it at the end of April like we originally planned."
How long does testing take?
This isn't the first time O2 has delayed an Android phone - it was the exclusive provider of the first Samsung Android phone, the i7500 Galaxy, but that took a long time to appear on the shelves due the same testing reason.
At least you can check out the tariffs O2 will be offering the HTC on when it finally arrives, so you can decide whether it's the phone for you.
For instance you can buy the phone for £49 on a 24-month contract with unlimited data and texts, and 300 minutes, but you'll have to fork out £30 per month.

5. So they DO test these things - from what I've read about what network providers do to the phones that can often make them unusable (Orange on my wife's Satio, for example) by adding their own **** to the firmware, this surprises me greatly.......

4. Also O2's 3g network isn't brilliant. My iPhone was always dropping calls on the move and compared to my iPhone on Vodafone - well actually there is no comparison. I'm nearly always connected and should i move from 3G to 2G whilst on the move it rarely drops the call. My wifes new Palm on o2 aint much better either. Plus they priced themselves to high for too long on the better smartphones when thier 3G sucked

3. By the time O2 get the Desire, there'll be no new Desire customers left.

2. I am on O2 and I getting more and more annoyed by the delay. If my partner wasn't on O2 then I would have definitely moved to T Mobile. If O2 match the T Mobile deal then I will stay quite happily as generally the service is good. I agree about the ludicrous new tariffs - they will lose a fair number of customers as they are expensive and not very good value.

1. I was on O2 (for 8 very happy years) and eagerly awaiting the Desire - but - after getting frustrated with them not releasing any info and every other network releasing the phone and the rather expensive and iPhone-centric tariffs on O2 - I said goodbye and went with another provider. It's a shame but the seem to be pretty slack on the hottest phone of the year. Reading the forums many have followed the same route away from O2 due to their slow 'testing' of the Desire.
