Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 has been in beta for what seems a very long time and I have been running it on my MediaSmart server with no issues. It's finally available for download.

The biggest part of the update is that it fixes the data corruption bug, this is the bug that has dogged the platform since its launch where in certain situations Windows Home Server would corrupt files when working with documents from applications like Outlook and Live Photo Gallery (more information on the bug can be found in Microsoft's Knowledge Base article KB 946676).

Microsoft decided to include the fix in Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 which also adds Windows Vista x64 support, backup of Shared Folders and improved remote access. It's worth all Windows Home Server users updating their systems and you can download it from the Microsoft Download Center.

HP has also announced that their HP MediaSmart Server update is live. This software update provides enhanced media streaming through PacketVideo PVConnect and server side anti-virus protection from McAfee. It will also prepare the HP MediaSmart Server for 64-bit support once PP1 has been installed.
