The Intruder was a smash hit in its native France when it debuted back in February, and has been making similar waves in the opposite hemisphere since its release in New Zealand, with a UK bow on the way this winter.
The sort of psychological thriller that dominates the schedules in Blighty, the show follows Paula (Mélanie Doutey), a mother of three nearing the end of her maternity leave. Not feeling ready to juggle work and family life, she hires au pair Tess (Lucie Fagedet), and it’s not long before the new addition to the household is adored by children and adults alike. Except Paula, that is, who feels uneasy around the young girl.
After a series of domestic accidents plague the family, Paula is left feeling like a bad mother, and no one believes her suspicions that Tess may be the cause. She begins to question if post-partum depression may be making her paranoid, if she herself is the reason for the mysterious occurrences, or if Tess really does have an ulterior motive.
