A sport immortalized by the cult classic, Cool Runnings, the bobsleigh is one of the most thrilling events at the Winter Olympics. A combination of raw athletic power, teamwork and immense technical skill, the sleds can reach can reach speeds in excess of 150kph.
Held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, at the Cortina Sliding Centre, four events are scheduled for Milano Cortina 2026: two-man bobsleigh, four-man bobsleigh, two-woman bobsleigh and women's monobob. All of which are guaranteed to deliver plenty of drama.
When it comes to nations to watch, there is one that is expected to dominate. Four years ago, German athletes won three out of four possible gold medals. They also swept the men’s two-man podium. Francesco Friedrich will be chasing a fifth gold medal in Italy and will be competing in both the two-man and four-man events.
Germany’s Laura Nolte is also expected to add to her medal haul and will be going for gold in both the monobob and two-woman, with her main competition in the solo event likely to come from teammate Lisa Buckwit and Team USA’s Kaysha Love.
