We reviewed Camtasia back in 2022, and although the service has added plenty of new features since then, the core of the service remains just as impressive. Licenses and Plans
TechSmith offers customers the choice of a lifetime license, or three different subscription plans. Note that you will need to choose from one of these subscriptions if you want to be able to keep accessing the latest updates, as this is not included with the lifetime license. The three types of Camtasia plan are Essentials, Create and Pro.
Essentials is the simplest, and gives you unlimited screen and camera recording functionality, plus video editing tools and speech-to-text transcription.
If you want to add AI script generation, text-based video editing, audio clean-up tools, and access to a library of over 200 styles and voices, you'll need to opt for the Create plan.
Finally, the Pro plan includes all this, plus video review and collab functionality, an expanded library of more than 100 million assets, and advanced AI tools that let you generate titles, descriptions, chapters, avatar videos and captions.
Functionality
Whichever plan you choose, Camtasia is compatible with Windows and MacOS, and proves incredibly easy to set up and use. Once you get going, the workflow allows you to choose from different layout templates, which include effects and varied screen recording locations. You'll also be able to choose from different backgrounds and other customizable features covering cursor shape and size, reflection, borders and filters.
We were particularly impressed by the video editing features, which give users a great deal of customizability when it comes to what you record or what gets added. You can include or remove audio, add in webcam feeds, annotate, title, and insert transitions with the click of a button. This powerful capability in a simple package is what makes Camtasia appealing - it's a potent piece of software that can address all of your needs without getting overwhelming.
