Surprise! The best Kindle deal this Black Friday isn't from Amazon – here's how to score an extra AU$40 off the Paperwhite

Not that long ago I wrote about the best Black Friday Kindle deal in Australia being the Paperwhite, which has dropped to an all-time low price of AU$229 on Amazon, alongside the Kindle Colorsoft at AU$309. At the time, I ended up suggesting that the Kobo Libra Colour for AU$319 was the better buy, but I'm going to eat my words now.

That's because I think scoring the standard 16GB Kindle Paperwhite for just AU$189 is the new best Black Friday ereader deal of 2025, period!

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2024): was AU$299 now AU$189 at The Good Guys

If you're fine shopping for a Kindle at other retailers than Amazon, try The Good Guys. You'll initially see the same discounted price of AU$229 that's on Amazon, but there's a price-beat button on that listing that will bring the price down to AU$189. This is the absolute best-value ereader deal of Black Friday 2025 in my opinion, and unlikely to be beaten this year.

I'm utterly amazed that you can get the current edition of the Paperwhite at this low price – if I didn't already have one, I'd be taking advantage right now!

Its 7-inch E Ink Carta 1300 screen is fantastic, page turns are quick and I was quite impressed with its overall performance in my Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2024) review.

My only complaint with it is that a significant chunk of its 16GB storage is taken up by the OS, though that won't necessarily be a deal breaker for most users. And that's especially true in Australia because you won't be storing any audiobooks on it – with no Bluetooth connectivity, it doesn't support them.

To add a little more context to why this price-beat deal is better is because it significantly drops the price below what the Kobo Clara BW is going for right – which is full price at AU$249. I'd absolutely encourage you to buy Kobo if we're looking at just a AU$20 difference between the two competitors, but not when there's a AU$60 price difference.

As TechRadar's resident ereader expert, this absolutely gets my approval – at this price, it's the perfect time to upgrade from an old Kindle, or even gift a new one to an avid reader you know this Christmas.
