T-Mobile's iPhone Duo deal could be ending soon — and there's another reason to consider ordering a device today

Just a quick PSA, folks. The initial preorder phase for the brand-new iPhone Duo is drawing to a close, so it could be worth placing an order at T-Mobile if you're interested in the carrier's opening deal.

The reasons are two-fold. Firstly, the device is subject to very, very long backlogs right now, stretching to January in some cases. It's definitely worth securing a position in line before it stretches out even further. In the best-case scenario, the backlog could ease up as more stock is released, so there's an outside chance you won't be waiting as long as January for a device, too.

Secondly, there's no guarantee that T-Mobile's deal for the initial preorder phase will stick around once the device is officially released. Currently, you can get a $1,000 saving with either a new line (number port) or a trade-in on the high-end Experience Beyond plan, which is a strong promotion.

While this deal is pretty standard for T-Mobile, there's a risk that the carrier could pull back on the maximum savings here, especially because the device is subject to heavy demand.

T-Mobile's opening deal offers a couple of ways to save on the brand new iPhone Duo. First up, you can trade in for an excellent discount of up to $1,000 if you pick up the device alongside a new line on the Experience Beyond plan. Secondly, if you're a new customer, you can port your number from another carrier and skip the trade-in criteria completely with a line on the Experience Beyond plan. If that plan doesn't fit, then note that you can still trade in for a discount on the more affordable plans.

What's new with the iPhone Duo?

Apple iPhone Duo REVIEW

The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foray into foldable phones. It features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner screen with a matte-like finish designed to minimise the appearance of the crease. Unlike rivals from Samsung and Google, its shorter, wider design resembles a passport or a foldable iPad mini, rather than the book-like design common on other foldable devices.

Under the hood, it packs Apple's new A20 Pro chipset and a titanium frame reinforced with ceramic fibres. Apple has also introduced exclusive software features, including new Liquid Glass animations, widescreen support for popular apps, and Apple Pencil compatibility for the first time on an iPhone.

In short, it's a very well-featured device. However, it does miss a few features like Face ID, a telephoto camera, and the Action button, all of which are available on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
