Ahead of the 5th T20I at the Rose Bowl, England have already sealed their first-ever T20 series victory over India, one that goes down as the tourists' heaviest ever series defeat, and incorporates their heaviest ever defeat in the short format.

India have never been whitewashed in a series comprising at least three matches. However, in the midst of a record five-game losing streak (in completed matches), which includes their first ever defeats to Ireland, they're in freefall.

They sensationally dispensed of the services of their T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav shortly before the start of the series, with Shreyas Iyer replacing him despite last featuring in a T20I in December 2023. Hindsight, as they say, is Twenty20.

It was the manner of the nine-wicket annihilation at the County Ground on Thursday that really stood out.

It wasn't just that India set a meagre target of 159, Iyer top-scoring for the visitors with an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls. It was that, with Jos Buttler skittled for eight and Phil Salt failing to score off his first nine balls, India squandered what little hope they had with a pair of careless no-balls. Salt didn't need a third invitation.
