Now that Black Friday deals are in the rearview mirror, it's time to get ready to shop Australia's Boxing Day sales. The last couple of years (in 2023 and 2024), nearly every Aussie retailer kicked off Boxing Day sales on December 22, and that's all thanks to Amazon starting on that date. I'm expecting something similar this year too, although I am seeing Boxing Day deals already show up.

The Good Guys is advertising flash sales with Boxing Day labelling, while Dyson has already slashed up to 55% off select products in its 'holiday' sale. There's a bit of time yet and I absolutely wouldn't recommend you use these early Boxing Day deals to shop for last-minute Christmas gifts – unless you're planning on using the click-and-collect option, you might be pushing the envelope for delivery windows.

It works as a smart speaker so you can control your smart home devices with it, but it also provides access to every streaming app you can think of. Throw in Dolby Vision, HDR, and Dolby Atmos, and it’s everything you could want. So why not grab a streaming device that's also a smart speaker?

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2024)
Save 17% (AU$50)
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2024): was AU$299 now AU$249 at Amazon

While this discount isn't massive and is AU$20 more than what we saw over Black Friday, it's still a discount to consider on what I think is the best Kindle on the market. Its E Ink Carta 1300 screen is fantastic, page turns are quick and I gave it 4 stars in my review.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ (128GB, Wi-Fi)
Save 24% (AU$92)
Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ (128GB, Wi-Fi): was AU$379 now AU$287 at Amazon

The latest in Samsung's well-received budget tablet range, the A11 picks up where the A9 left off, and at the same price too. This is the base model, with just Wi-Fi connectivity and 128GB of storage, but you can expand that easily to up to 2TB via a microSD card. If you need an Android tablet for daily use like browsing, watching videos and maybe playing a few games, this one's well worth considering.

Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer smart glasses

Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer smart glasses: was AU$489 now AU$366 at Amazon

The follow-up to the original Ray-Ban Stories, these smart glasses retain the classic Wayfarer look while packing a camera, speakers and new AI-powered features. Our review found that the 12MP camera and so-so audio meant that the glasses may not be for everyone, but gave it high marks for being lightweight and customisable.

Kindle Colorsoft (16GB)
Save 18% (AU$70)
Kindle Colorsoft (16GB): was AU$399 now AU$329 at Amazon

Using a 7-inch E Ink display with support for over 4,000 colours, 16GB storage and up to eight weeks' battery life on a single charge, the Colorsoft is hard to pass up, especially if you mostly read comics, manga or graphic novels. While it's not the most impressive discount (it was AU$20 cheaper for Black Friday), a AU$70 reduction isn't something to scoff at.

Meta Quest 3S (128GB)
Save 16% (AU$81.99)
Meta Quest 3S (128GB): was AU$499.99 now AU$418 at Amazon
Read moreRead less

While the Quest 3S holds a few downgrades in the display department compared to the regular Meta Quest 3, you'll likely not notice unless you use them side by side. In most ways (including software and chipset), it’s identical – and this is a fantastic price (exactly what we saw for Black Friday) if you're looking to try VR gaming.

Dyson Airstrait
Save 34% (AU$252)
Dyson Airstrait: was AU$749 now AU$497 at Amazon

Promising to take way less time to straighten hair than traditional flat irons by working just fine in wet hair, the Airstrait is the hair-care tool making headlines. It won't burn wet hair as other straighteners would, leaving you with less hair damage and a quicker styling session in the mornings. And Amazon is matching the Black Friday discount.

Dyson Airwrap i.d.
Save 18% (AU$150)
Dyson Airwrap i.d.: was AU$849 now AU$699 at Dyson Australia

I don't recalling such a good discount on the new edition of the Airwrap multi-styler, but note that only a few of the colourways get this AU$150 saving. According to TechRadar's Home Editor, this is the best hair styler tool, hands down, with the curl.i.d switch being the game changer here. It's still an investment and I don't think this price will drop any further through the sale period.

Dyson Airwrap i.d.

I don't recalling such a good discount on the newest edition of the Airwrap multi-styler – it was between AU$690 and AU$699 for Black Friday at various retailers, so this is a fantastic discount! According to TechRadar's Home Editor, this is the best hair styler tool, hands down, with the curl.i.d switch being the game changer here. It's still an investment and I don't think this price will drop any further through the sale period.

Dyson V15 Detect Absolute
Save 46% (AU$673)
Dyson V15 Detect Absolute: was AU$1,449 now AU$776 at Dyson Australia
Read moreRead less

It might be getting a little long in the tooth but the V15 Detect is still arguably the best-value Dyson you can buy. This isn't the cheapest it's been, but it didn't even get discounted during Black Friday last month, so this offer definitely needs highlighting. It's lighter than the models that came after it, runs up to 60 minutes on a single charge (albeit in low suction and non-motorised tools), and the Fluffy Optic is a game changer for cleaning fine particles off hard floors.

Dyson V9 Submarine
Save 20% (AU$201)
Dyson V9 Submarine: was AU$999 now AU$798 at Dyson Australia
Read moreRead less

Dyson quietly released this model earlier this year, offering a cheaper way to get yourself a wet-and-dry vacuum. It has lesser suction power than the V15s Detect, but we haven't been able to try it for ourselves yet. It also lasts no more than 40 minutes on a single charge. I'd say this would be better suited to smaller homes. This offer is just AU$3 more than its Black Friday discount, but you get a bonus gift with additional attachments worth AU$79 when you purchase directly from Dyson.

Dyson Gen5detect Absolute
Save 43% (AU$672)
Dyson Gen5detect Absolute: was AU$1,549 now AU$877 at Dyson Australia
Read moreRead less

Scoring AU$650 off Dyson's most powerful cordless vac is a great deal in my opinion, and you're getting it directly from the maker. This machine gets you up to 280 air watts of suction, which is plenty powerful even for the hairiest of carpets, plus up to 70 minutes of runtime (if used on low power and non-motorised attachments). It's a little top heavy in my opinion, but it's an excellent cleaner if you need a new vacuum.

Boxing Day sales 2025: key information

What date do Boxing Day sales in Australia start in 2025?

Officially, Boxing Day is the very next day after Christmas on December 26. Following the festive season, a bunch of retailers offer up solid discounts to make way for new stock arriving in the new year. It was once a single-day shopping experience, ending at midnight on December 26, but that’s changed in the last few years.

More and more retailers are kicking off their Boxing Day sales earlier in December – for example, the Amazon Boxing Day 2023 and 2024 kicked off on December 22 – meaning you can shop these offers leading up to and on Christmas Day if you really want to.

Similarly, the deals often run past Boxing Day towards the new year, but you might miss a bargain if you wait too long as stock could sell out earlier in the sale.

We recommend keeping an eye on the Boxing Day sales from December 18 if you’re keen to snatch a bargain, so long as it doesn’t interrupt your festive celebrations. The Boxing Day sales are a little too late for a last-minute Christmas gift, but are one last chance to nab a bargain before the year’s end.

When do the Boxing Day sales end and January sales begin?

The distinction between Boxing Day sales and January sales are a bit blurred – some retailers switch Boxing Day over to January sales once December 27 arrives, while others will run Boxing Day offers right up until the new year.

It’s still a good plan to get in early for the retailers you want to shop from, as well as the products you want to score – once stock has run out it might not be available again in the January sales.

What is Boxing Day in Australia?

Originating from the 1980s, Boxing Day sales has been a long running tradition in Australia for over 40 years. Before online shopping, customers would wake up early to get in store and snatch up the best deals on December 26 before they ran out.

Brick-and-mortar stores such as David Jones and Myer were often packed during Boxing Day, but since the inception of online shopping, you no longer have to brave the crowds to get a good deal on the day.

You’ll still want to get in early if you want to make sure you get the deal you desire, even online – stock could be extremely limited or you might only have a short time to snatch a bargain in flash sales. Though we recommend planning ahead by creating a shopping list of most wanted items and what price you’re willing to pay to avoid buyer’s remorse from a spontaneous purchase.

Some sellers won’t do store-wide discounts, often opting to highlight selected products in the Boxing Day sales. But anything and everything is prime for a bargain – so keep your eyes peeled on what you want, you could grab it for a fantastic price come December 26.

Is it better to shop during Black Friday or Boxing Day?

There’s a few things to consider when comparing Black Friday and Boxing Day – firstly, are you hoping to grab a Christmas present on sale? If so, Black Friday is by far the better day to shop, as you definitely won’t get your Boxing Day purchase before Christmas, and it might not even arrive until the new year.

Secondly, it can depend on what you’re looking for, though this has changed a lot in the previous few years. Boxing Day was traditionally a great shopping event for fashion and homewares, whereas Black Friday was the best time for tech, particularly new TVs, headphones and smartwatches – this is now no longer the case.

Now you can often find big tech discounts on Boxing Day as well. Whether you’re holding out for a saving on Apple iPhones, Microsoft Surface laptops, LG OLED TVs, Sony headphones or anything from big brands, Boxing Day could deliver some of the biggest savings to close out the year.

Which stores have the best Boxing Day sales in Australia?

Boxing Day sales 2025: our predictions

With the new year on the horizon, Boxing Day is a great chance for retailers to clear out older stock – which means it’s a fantastic time for shoppers to find a bargain. You might not see offers on newly released products like we did during Black Friday, but don’t look past the offers that might pop up later in December – some of these will likely be on products that still appear in lists like the best TVs, best phones and best headphones.

TV deals

If you’ve been holding out for a deal on a new TV, the Boxing Day and January sales are a great chance to save on one. Appliance Online, Appliance Central, The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi are the top retailers you’ll want to keep an eye on for a TV deal though other sites like eBay will likely offer up some discounts as well. Meanwhile, you’re not likely to find a good TV deal on Amazon, though you could find one of the best soundbars on sale there if you’re after one of those instead.

Typically, the TV deals on Boxing Day have been best on the latest releases the year prior, so you can generally find OLED and QLED displays snatching up big discounts. But if you’re not keen on spending the big bucks, the deals tend to go down the range to some mid-range and budget models as well – so there’s likely to be a TV for any need or budget, but we won’t know exactly what’s on offer until Boxing Day is here.

Don’t worry gamers – you’re likely to be well catered to as well. Whether you own a PS5 or an Xbox Series X, you’re likely going to find a deal for a TV to game on. If trends follow previous years, we'll definitely see our favourite TV, the LG C5 OLED, on sale.

Computing and laptop deals

Boxing Day might not have the reputation Black Friday or EOFY sales do for discounts on laptops, but we still expect to see a few pop up in this sale. Lenovo, Dell, HP and Microsoft are all in prime position to offer laptops directly from the source on December 26, though third-party sellers like JB Hi-Fi, Mwave and The Good Guys might slash the price on different models, including gaming laptops and 2-in-1s.

Headphones, tablets and phones

Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2025 offered up a stack of headphones, from some of the best wireless earbuds to chunky noise-cancelling cans including the Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (Gen 2), and it’s pretty likely headphones of all sorts will get the Boxing Day sale treatment as well.

Tablets were a bit of an enigma in the November sales – all of Amazon's current Kindles were at an all-time low in November, but there was a distinct dearth of iPads and Android tablets going at big discounts. And one of the iPads was out of stock real soon too.

The expectation is that stocks will be renewed by the time Boxing Day comes round and if you do see a price drop you like on a tablet you want, you'd best pick it up soon.

As for smartphones, we’re not likely going to see iPhones get huge discounts, especially the iPhone 17 family, but we could see some Android handsets coming down in price, especially if Black Friday was any indicator. Watch out for Google Pixels, both the most recent and older models, as well as handsets from Samsung and Motorola. Older foldable phones are prime for a discount, especially from sellers on eBay, though we are unlikely to see any offers on the latest ones.

Health and fitness

New year, new resolutions – and if your health and fitness are the main concern in the new year, Boxing Day and January sales could be a good chance to nab some tech to support these goals. Retailers know January is the time when a lot of people kick off a new fitness journey and take this opportunity to cash in by offering up some big bargains on smartwatches and fitness trackers.

We've seen plenty of offers on Garmin outdoor watches this year, but other smartwatches have not taking much of a deal spotlight, even in November this year. There might be offers on Withings ScanWatches and they're very good investments as they have ECG monitoring at a decent price.

The first ever discounts on the latest Apple Watches (specifically the SE 3 and Series 11) were offered during Black Friday and while those discounts will be matched, we don't think the offers will be better for Boxing Day. Samsung users might get lucky with bigger discounts on the latest Watch 8 series.

How do I get the best deals during Boxing Day sales?

With sales like Boxing Day, it’s pretty easy to get overwhelmed with the large volume of deals on offer. To avoid spontaneous shopping we recommend planning ahead – whether it’s picking out the items you want to score ahead of time, or making sure you get in early if you want to shop in store, a plan will help you save both time and money during the sale.

Once you know your budget, try and stick to it – if your desired item doesn’t come down in price and you can wait a little longer, you might find the January sales or other early 2025 sales deliver the discount you’re seeking. With the cost of living looming over every dollar spent, knowing what you’re able and willing to spend ahead of time will help you avoid the dreaded buyer’s remorse.

On the flipside, if you’re wanting to stock up for back to school, Boxing Day could be a good opportunity for that, though you’ll get more chances to save throughout January as well – which could give you a bit of budgeting buffering especially after Christmas.
