Whether you’re a parent with Lego-loving children or just a big kid yourself, there’s no denying the fact that Lego can be enjoyed by anyone. And now you can love it in new ways following the launch of the Smart Brick, which made its debut at CES in January earlier this year.
The Lego Smart Brick represents the biggest change to the popular building blocks in nearly 50 years, and adds an extra layer of interactivity, as it can trigger lights and sounds in various situations.
So far, Lego has released eight Star Wars-themed sets that are Smart Brick compatible, and all are discounted during the Amazon Big Smile Sale by up to 32%. If you’ve been tempted to try the new era of Lego for yourself, now is an opportune time, as I expect these discounts to end when the Big Smile Sale comes to a close this Sunday, March 22.
Do note that only three of the eight sets come with the all-important Smart Brick included — these are identified as ‘All-in-One’. The other five are labelled as ‘Compatible’ and will require you to get one of the All-in-One sets in order for them to work. Fortunately, these necessary sets have received some of the biggest discounts.
It's the most expensive all-in-one set, but it also has the highest number of pieces at 962, and you get two Smart Bricks included, alongside five Smart Tags. The Death Star throne room features a swivelling chair, an A-Wing fighter and three Smart Minifigures (Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Luke Skywalker).
Not only do you get a Smart Brick in this set of 584 pieces, but there are 2 Smart Minifigures (Luke Skywalker and General Leia Organa) and five Smart Tags. Along with building an X-Wing, this set also comprises a command centre, a transporter and an Imperial turret.
This is the most affordable route to getting the Smart Brick right now. Vader's iconic Tie Fighter set contains 473 pieces and includes an outpost and a fuelling station. Along with the Smart Brick you also get a Darth Vader Smart Minifigure, a TIE Fighter Smart Tag, and a standard Rebel Pilot Minifigure.
You can't think of Star Wars without thinking of the Millennium Falcon. And, while this might not have the scale of the 7,500 piece set, it does have the benefit of being Smart Play compatible. With a Smart Brick connected, you'll unlock lights and sounds authentic to the movies.
The AT-ST is another iconic Star Wars figure, and while this set doesn't come with the Smart Brick included, if you have one from another set, you'll unlock a new way to interact. This set includes one Smart Minigure and two Smart Tags.
One of the most memorable scenes from Episode IV has to be when Yoda provides Jedi training, and with a Smart Brick attached (not included), this set provides some fun sounds for Luke and Yoda.
This scene from the Mos Eisley Cantina is interactive even without using the Smart Brick. If you have another set that includes one, you can use it here to reveal the instantly recognisable and catchy jingle
The final Smart Play compatible set is Luke's Landspeeder. With only 215 pieces, you'll have this one built in no time. Note that this set also doesn't come with a Smart Brick included, but it does have 1 Smart Minifigure and 1 Smart Tag.
