- BBL15: Sun, Dec 14 – Sun, Jan 25 (full schedule below)
As Australia’s premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League generates all the hype it needs, but the 2025/26 edition does stand to be extra special. For the first time in years, Australia's Test stars will be free to feature in the latter stages. Some, no doubt, will fancy a break after The Ashes, but others may see it as worthwhile preparation for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup in February.
Steve Smith and Sean Abbott have already signed with the Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers with the Adelaide Strikers, and Josh Inglis with the Perth Scorchers. 11 years after he last participated in the BBL, the Sixers have also snagged Mitchell Starc following his retirement from T20I cricket.
Marcus Stoinis, who made the Men's T20 World Cup team of the tournament in 2024, captains the Melbourne Stars again, while it remains to be seen if the likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood will be tempted to get in on the action after the 5th Ashes Test, which is due to finish on January 8 – 10 days before the BBL finals get underway.
Chris Lynn, the BBL's all-time leading run-scorer, is likely to hit the 4,000-run milestone this season with the Adelaide Strikers, while David Warner is hoping to go one better with the Sydney Thunder. Not only were they beaten finalists last season, but the Hobart Hurricanes' Mitch Owen was the only player to score more runs than Warner.
