Buying your first laptop, or even a second machine for the kids, needn't be an expensive process.
With technology now more affordable than ever, you can easily get yourself a well-specified, dual-core portable for around the same low price as a netbook.
All four machines in this group test truly excel, with usability and features vastly belying the entry-level price tag.
While none can match the power you can get for a bit more money, you will still find ample power for most home use, with stunning images and great mobility ensuring truly great value for money.

3. Not a single laptop in the test from one of the largest manufacturers - Dell! and "Dual core laptops as cheap as netbooks" basically means netbooks are far too expensive for what they are

2. I don't think the only laptop with less than 2 hours battery life should be winning a group test. After all no-one would be happy if they took home a laptop only to find it worked for 90 mins away from the mains!

1. Reviews, like talk, is cheap.
The only guideline that worth anything is to know what laptop the reviewer (or their employer) has bought, with his/her own money.
