7 laptops I'd recommend to buy your Dad for Father's Day — MacBooks, cheap ChromeBooks, and gaming laptops
Everything from super-cheap basic options to high-end MacBooks
What do you get the Dad who has everything for Father's Day? Well, replacing an aging laptop is certainly an option. And, if you're looking to treat your father, then there are actually plenty of options to consider ahead of Father's Day this year.
I've been scanning the top retailers this week to find price cuts on the machines we recommend here at TechRadar. In particular, machines that are perfect for the Dad who works from home, plays games, or simply needs a new laptop for covering the basics.
Just below, you'll find 7 laptops starting from just $219 that are great for all types of dads. Everything's been separated into sections for budget, mid-range, and high-end laptops.
Note that this year's Father's Day falls on Sunday, June 21st, so there are still a few weeks to pick something up. Annoyingly, the big day is just before Amazon Prime Day 2026 (June 23rd), so waiting until Amazon's annual sale isn't an option. With that said, Best Buy, Dell, and Walmart all have great deals to consider right now.
Budget laptops
Processor: Intel Celeron N4500
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 64GB
We've always rated HP ChromeBooks highly at TechRadar, so this 14-inch model is my pick at Best Buy today if you're on a budget. An Intel Celeron chipset and 4GB of RAM make this one an entry-level machine, but you don't need much to run a Chromebook. Subsequently, it's a good option if you're just looking to cover the basics with a lightweight and modern-looking machine.

The MacBook Neo is back in stock with all colours at Amazon today, with a small price cut, too. The latest MacBook packs a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, an A18 Pro chip, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and up to 16 hours of battery life, all for under $600. It's no wonder that this latest model is already proving to be a best seller.

Mid-range laptops
Processor: Intel Ultra 7
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 1TB
The Dell 14 Plus is one of our favorite Windows 11 laptops from the past few years, and a great choice if you just want a solid machine with plenty of power. It does lack the pizazz of the XPS line, but the 14 Plus is still a nicely built laptop with an attractive design, plenty of ports, and a powerful Intel Ultra 7 chipset in this case. The best deal on this model at Dell today is for the entry-level 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD variant, which still provides plenty of performance right out of the box.

Processor: Apple M5
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 512GB
Amazon currently has the latest MacBook Air 13 listed for a price that's just $50 more than the record-low — an excellent deal by all accounts. With an impressive $150 discount, this deal addresses our main complaint with the M5 Air: namely, that it's pricier than the previous model. Now, you're getting the latest chipset, 16GB of RAM, and a bigger 512GB SSD for much less, with a price that arguably challenges even the budget MacBook Neo when it comes to outright value.

High-end laptops & gaming
Today's best deal on the MacBook Pro brings the latest 14-inch model down to just $1,549 — another deal that's only $50 more than the record-low at Amazon. While pricey, the MacBook Pro starts with a spacious 1TB storage drive and delivers serious performance thanks to its cooling fans (something the Air lacks). If you're looking for the ultimate MacBook, this is a great deal overall, for sure.

Graphics card: RTX 5060
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 260
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 1TB
A great choice if you're looking for a gaming laptop without completely blowing the budget, this Gigabyte A16 gets you everything you need for smooth gaming right out of the box. The combination of an RTX 5060 graphics card and Ryzen 7 chipset means decent chops for 1080p gaming, while a 1TB SSD also provides plenty of space on the drive. While not a super high-end machine, this one is still a cut above the more budget-oriented sub-$1,000 machines.

Graphics card: RTX 5070
Processor: Intel Core Ultra 9 285H
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 1TB
For those who want a truly high-end gaming machine, check out the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16. This model brings together a high-end OLED display, stylish design, and lightweight build for an all-around excellent premium package. Annoyingly, this machine does only feature 16GB of RAM, but the combination of an RTX 5070 graphics card and Intel Core Ultra 9 chipset is going to provide fantastic performance.
