Now in its sixth year, The Hundred returns bigger and better than ever before after some significant investment into the unique 100-ball tournament. There’s a host of new owners, three teams have changed their names and a brand new combined men’s and women’s trophy is up for grabs.
This brand new innovation sees a trophy awarded to the Hundred team performing best across both the men’s and women’s competitions. Every win, whether in the group stage, eliminators or the final, will be worth four points, with the totals added up to deliver a combined score for each franchise.
In addition to these changes, teams are now allowed to have four overseas players in the playing XI. The tournament also held a player auction for the first time, with England white-ball captain Harry Brook the most expensive signing after staying with SunRisers Leeds (formerly the Northern Superchargers) for £460,000.
MI London (formerly the Oval Invincibles) are going in search of a fourth straight men’s title and have retained some key players in Sam Curran and Will Jacks, as well as adding Afghanistan leg-spin maestro Rashid Khan. Reigning women’s champions SunRisers also made a big statement of intent by securing England all-rounder Dani Gibson for a huge £190k in the auction.
