But before you get excited, it's just listings

Freeview App on iPhone and iPod Touch

Freeview has launched an iPhone app 'designed to help viewers plan their TV viewing while on the go'

The Freeview iPhone app is essentially another listings app, allowing you to see what is being shown on the Freeview channels – plus the HD channels on the Freeview HD service.

"Features including a 'now and next' view and 'Top 10' channel list will make it easier to plan TV viewing and keeping up to date with the most popular channels," says Freeview's release.

"Users can reorder channels so favourites appear first and customise listing to a viewer's local region."

No record functionality

Of course, the technophile audience may well be pointing out that Sky's listing app also lets you set your PVR, or that other EPG apps have been available for some time.

Tim Hunt, Marketing Communications Director at Freeview said: "As Freeview HD rolls-out across the UK, viewers can plan their HD viewing wherever they are with our new Freeview HD TV guide app.

"The launch of this smart app will allow users to cut a quicker path to their favourite channels and get the most out of planning their TV viewing."

The Freeview app is free and available for all iPhone and iPod touch users to download from iTunes now.

3. @Patrick Goss

Has anyone at TechRadar comes across TVCatchup at all? I recommend TechRadar should test it and review it and engage viewers of this site of its presence on the net.

2. When and if you create a free account, here is the web address for the freeview service on your ipod touch and iphone:

http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/

It works really well only a very small lag (couple of minutes at most) between live tv through tv and live tv through internet stream.

There are rarely any buffering issues - however, if you have a network with multiple people watching video, downloading files, streaming music etc, then you will suffer some buffer issues, but then that would be expected as multiple people are using all the bandwidth.

Doesn't use flash on iphone (uses something else, I think, but I could be wrong) so iphone stays cool to touch.

Regards

1. If anyone is interested in getting freeview on their iphone or ipod touch, look up TVCatchup - it is a live broadcasting service that is free (you accept in the terms that you have a valid TV Licence - that's it, no fees at all).

http://www.tvcatchup.com/

Works on PC as well, no installation is required, all web streams.

Sign up and use is free - service is supported by all of the broadcasters - it is a legitimate and legal service by the way.

This is your answer to freeview on the go. Look up the website and click 'iphone' tab, there you will see a web address especially for the iphone service.

You'll love it if you try it.
