Higher-spec TVs do exist, but at this price point the QM5K delivers middle-of-the-range picture quality and a generous set of features. This is a huge TV for not a lot of money.

Full transparency, we've not actually reviewed the TCL QM5K, but we have had the slightly better model, the TCL QM6K, through our testing room. We gave it a respectable four stars and called it “affordable and (almost) premium”. It offers “vibrant color and good contrast”, while there’s also a “straightforward, easy-to-navigate UI.”

The more budget-friendly TCL QM5K is very similar in many ways, with most of the compromises made around motion handling and peak brightness. We'd say the QM5K is for anyone wanting a quality mid-range TV for watching shows and films. If you need a set with gaming smarts, then you'll want the QM6K instead.
