The Night Agent season 3 has already wrapped production, which is great news for fans of the action-packed Netflix series.

Navigating what it means to run a basketball team was the core of season 1, and it looks like The Night Agent season 2 is set to carry the torch, no doubt with increasing drama for Isla as she struggles not only with her business life, but her personal one, too.

Here's everything we know so far about The Night Agent season 3 from release date, confirmed cast, plot rumors, news and more.

The Night Agent season 3: is there a release date?

As far as The Night Agent season 3 release date goes, we don't have one yet. But, as of July 14, we do know the cast and crew have officially wrapped production, which gives us a little bit of an idea of when we can expect it.

Thanks to a X/Twitter post from showrunner, Shawn Ryan also revealed that after Tudum confirmed filming in Istanbul and New York had taken place, that there will in fact be many more places visited in season 3, and it's all been filmed already. Add Washington D.C., Mexico and the Dominican Republic to the location list.

If I were to make a prediction on release date then, given that season 2 commenced filming in Feb 2024, concluded in June 2024 and was released in January 2025. I'd think that we could be seeing The Night Agent season 3 as soon as early 2026, maybe even January, if we're lucky.

No official announcement just yet though, but I'll be sure to update here as soon as I hear.

The Night Agent season 3: has a trailer been released?

There's not a The Night Agent season 3 trailer yet, but if the predicted release date is anything to go by tied in with the similar timeline season 2's release, it could well be December 2025.

Plus, a little teaser for season 2 dropped in November ahead of season 2's January release date. So, we could get a sneak peek of season 3 as early as November...

Gabriel Basso will be reprising his role as Peter Sutherland alongside a few returning characters and entirely new ones getting a place in The Night Agent season 3:

  • Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland
  • Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington
  • Ward Horton as Governor Richard Hagan
  • Albert Jones as Aiden Mosley
  • David Lyons as TBC
  • Jennifer Morrison as TBC
  • Stephen Moyer as TBC
  • Genesis Rodriguez as TBC
  • Callum Vinson as TBC
  • Suraj Sharma as TBC

Rose stands by an open door in The Night Agent

You'll notice one major name missing from The Night Agent season 3 cast list and that's Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan. Aside from Peter, Rose was the only returning character in season 2, but she won't be back... at least for now.

Speaking to Deadline in September, Buchanan said: "As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career – being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind – the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever."

And showrunner, Shawn Ryan, also revealed to Deadline that: "We always envisioned the show as telling a new story each season with a revolving cast, and the story we broke for Season 3, much to our chagrin, didn’t have a satisfying place for Rose.”

But you'll also notice some new names joining the cast, as reported by Variety. Six, in fact, which shouldn't be all that surprising to hear given Ryan's vision for a revolving cast.

While no official details have been revealed about their characters, Deadline reported: "I hear Lyons will play a former spy lured out of retirement, Morrison will play the First Lady, Moyer will play a top hitman; and Rodriguez will play a reporter."

Despite the drive for a different cast, I'd still expect the return of Amanda Warren (Catherine Weaver) and Louis Herthum (Jacob Monroe) given how season 2 ended. More on this below.

Full spoilers for The Night Agent seasons 1 & 2 to follow.

The Night Agent season 2 was focused on Peter's very first mission as an official Night Agent, which led him down a dangerous rabbit hole to stop a devastating chemical weapons attack, spearheaded by aggressive dictator, Viktor Bala.

With Viktor in prison though, the deadly plan falls to his family, namely his son Tomás and nephew, Markus. Although Markus eventually steered the whole mission down an even more catastrophic path. Fortunately, Peter manages to execute a plan that stops Bala's men in their tracks, but not without sacrifice.

Rose tracks Peter down while he's in hiding and helps him utilize Noor, an Iranian UN aide, to gather intel on the inside in exchange for her family's safety (which didn't quite go as planned).

But, in order to find out the location of the deadly chemical weapons, and alongside it free a kidnapped Rose, Peter had to steal a document from the UN building in exchange for said information.

And the man trading in information was Jacob Monroe, a rich and highly influential businessman trading in highly confidential information for his own gain, and to sway the Presidential election.

So, despite Ryan's vision for a new story for each season, it appears that Jacob's story isn't over yet. Especially considering Catherine told Peter to do Jacob's dirty work for him, after he confessed to everything that had gone down to complete the Night Action mission.

And it appears that the fallout of season 2 will play a big part in what's to come. Speaking to Deadline, Ryan said: "We’re still crafting season 3, so I’m reluctant to talk too specifically about it. But what I will say is that Peter, because he is a good, decent person at the end of season 2, he realizes that, while he got the desired result of saving Rose, stopping the attack on the UN, that the actions that he took to achieve that had some unintended consequences that could be even bigger, perhaps, than the things he stopped. That will be a part of Season 3, him trying to emotionally and logistically deal with the unintended consequences of his actions in season 2."

As for what happens to Peter after season 3, when talking to Variety Basso might not stick around: “I’m probably going to take a break. I think Peter’s making decisions that have to happen. And it would be doing the audience a disservice if every season, he was fine.”

But, he's certainly not done yet. What we also know about season 3 is that it's been shot in multiple locations, even more so than season 2, and takes The Night Agent across the globe for whatever Night Action mission comes up next. I've no doubt it'll be full of deceit, action, and nail-biting moments, though I'm not sure I could deal with another Javad.

Will there be more seasons of The Night Agent?

No word on The Night Agent season 3 yet (Image credit: Netflix)

There's no official word on more seasons of The Night Agent. But, speaking to Variety, Ryan has contemplated the possibility of The Night Agent continuing, even if Peter Sutherland doesn't front it: “How long does Gabriel want to do the show? The show is called ‘The Night Agent.’ It’s not called ‘The Gabriel Basso Show.’ So there may be a time when he decides he wants to do something else, and there’s a different night agent.”

And when Variety asked Basso whether we're talking 5 or 10 years, he added “It’ll be sooner than that,” he says. “The monopoly of youth is energy, and I think that I have to convert that into service in order to be legitimate as a person." That's something you'd certainly never heard Ethan Hunt say, but maybe Basso still has a season or two more left in the tank.

If not, perhaps the future of The Night Agent could swap out Basso for an entirely new character. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how all this shapes the upcoming season 3.
