Calls the Heart is the jewel in Prime Video's Hallmark+ bundle
In the blink of an eye, I became an expert on When Calls the Heart, and now I can't imagine life without it. We're 12 seasons in now, with season 13 currently in development to hopefully be released in early 2026.
But what it is about? The series follows humbly endearing teacher Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) as she arrives in 1910s Hope Valley in search of a new life. From there, we see her change the face of education in the region, make new friends and have a string of romantic entanglements, including with a husband who dies in a freak landslide accident (RIP).
It's incredible how something so seemingly mundane can be so exhilarating – indeed, these mundane moments are so bad that they're brilliant. If you're not crying over little Jack (Hyland Goodrich) being diagnosed with life-threatening diabetes, you're streaming tears of joy over how mike helps put up a roof as a suitable episode B-plot.
We've seen When Calls the Heart span from 1910 into the roaring twenties, and the series shows no signs of slowing down. Essentially, it's the Hallmark version of Grey's Anatomy – you're not really sure how, but it continues to keep on truckin'.
If that's not enough, Hallmark also hosts numerous When Calls the Heart Christmas specials, alongside the first season of spinoff show When Hope Calls (I promise they're not completely the same thing). Both of these explain how Morgan Kohan, who you've likely seen in Sullivan's Crossing, became a breakout Hallmark star.
Is your head spinning as much as mine? If you get amongst it, I promise you won't regret it.
