When France trampled all over Ireland and Scotland fell to a miserable defeat against Italy in their respective openers, few would have thought that this Round 4 clash would turn out to be the de facto Six Nations decider. Les Bleus top the standings with 15 points, four clear of the second-placed Scots, but Gregor Townsend has a solid record against France – especially at Murrayfield.

For France, a bonus-point victory would secure the Championship title with a fixture to spare. Fabien Galthiés men have conceded the fewest tries and scored by far the most, with their measured kicking and intricate passing patterns setting them apart. Antoine Dupont, Matthieu Jalibert and Louis Bielle-Biarrey are all player of the tournament contenders.

However, Scotland's progress has arguably been even more entertaining. That hugely damaging early defeat was followed by a shock trouncing of a previously red-hot England side and a late, Finn Russell-inspired comeback to down a resurgent Wales team. And it's not been as chaotic as it's looked – only France's defence has been meaner.

Victory on Saturday would see Scotland head into the final weekend with a realistic shot at the title for the first time in the Six Nations era, but for that to transpire they'll need to start much more quickly than they've done. They blinked first against both Italy and Wales; France had already buried Ireland, Wales and Italy before the half-time whistle.
