Dutton Ranch gets a surprisingly early release date — and I’m convinced Paramount+ is planning a Marshals: A Yellowstone Story crossover

At no point before starting my working week did I think I'd be reporting that Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch is coming to Paramount+ from May 15.

Kicking off with a two-episode drop before the remaining seven episodes air weekly afterwards, the new Taylor Sheridan series will follow Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they fight to build a future together.

As Paramount puts it, "far from the ghosts of Yellowstone — they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul."

With The Madison and Marshals: A Yellowstone Story both releasing in March, I thought we'd be later this year for Paramount to dip back into Sheridan Western land. However, I think the Dutton Ranch release date means something — and that something is a crossover.

Are we more likely to get a Marshals or Landman crossover in Dutton Ranch... or is it all just wishful thinking?

Let's break down my theory first. As we've established, Dutton Ranch is due to begin airing from May 15 — but Marshals season 1 doesn't wrap up until May 24. The latter has already been renewed for a second season, even though it's been absolutely slammed by fans less than four episodes in.

The overriding concern is that Marshals feels less like Yellowstone and more like any typical police procedural you might find on CBS. So what better way to win fans back (and return to the core show feeling) than plopping Beth's brother Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) in the middle of Dutton Ranch?

It's the crossover that makes the most logical sense, given that both Marshals and Dutton Ranch are legitimate Yellowstone spinoffs (whereas something like The Madison is unrelated). Given that, and they fact that they'll briefly be airing at the same time, it's almost as if the Dutton family has been fully reunited anyway.

However, none of this is what fans are thinking. Go to the YouTube comments on the teaser trailer above and you'll see they're more focused on Beth and Rip's relocation to Texas. And who is in Texas, as one fan points out? Taylor Sheridan's resident Landman, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton).

It's a wilder crossover theory given that Landman is a standalone series, but the geography definitely matches up. Rather than the likes of Tommy, Cami (Demi Moore) and Angela (Ali Larter) making an appearance, I'd put my money on a smaller character making their way into Beth and Rip's story.

Tommy's son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) would be the most obvious choice, but there's the bigger stumbling block of scheduling. Landman season 2 came out last year, and Landman season 3 hasn't even started production.

But this is just all chaotic speculation from those of us who can hardly wait another day — let alone two more months — to stream Dutton Ranch. With Marshals and The Madison both receiving middling reviews, it's left to Dutton Ranch to save Taylor Sheridan's 2026... and cameos would be a slam-dunk strategy.
