If you’ve always thought virtual reality headsets are too niche of a product category, and that you won’t use one on a regular basis, then allow me to draw your attention to the Meta Quest 3S. This affordable, comfortable and capable VR headset represents one of the easiest routes to virtual reality – and it’s now discounted by up to 33% thanks to Amazon’s October Prime Day sale.

What’s more, the biggest discount also happens to apply to the higher-spec 256GB model, giving you more storage to download games. While our tester did say that 128GB is fine for most users in our Meta Quest 3S review, I’d argue that double the storage for just AU$31 more at the time of writing is the more economical purchase.

Meta Quest 3S: was AU$669.99 now AU$449 at Amazon

Slashing a huge AU$221 off its list price, if you’ve been eyeing up a VR headset for some time, this is now a fantastic opportunity to score what is arguably one of the finest models around.

If you’ve never used a VR headset before and are intimidated about setting it up, fear not. In reality, all you actually need is a decent amount of space (ideally a 1m x 1m box around you) to move around while you play games. And I do mean “box” because your arms will need overhead space to flail around in some cases. You don’t need to put out any base stations or other gear, just get yourself a good area and you’ll be fine.

Want some game suggestions to get you started? No problem. Because the Quest 3S runs on Horizon OS, which gives you access to Meta’s library of exclusive titles, among many others, you have access to Walkabout Mini Golf, Beat Saber, Batman: Arkham Shadow, and Vendetta Forever. Any of these are great places to start.

You’ll also benefit from adding Netflix and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, if you’re subscribed to either service (despite the latter’s recent price hike), and you could even dip your toes into VR fitness to help keep you active and healthy.

There’s a lot more the Meta Quest 3S has to offer, and thanks to this deal, it’s offering it at a truly accessible price point for VR.
