  • Outlander season 8 will be released on March 7, 2026
  • Eighth and final season has the slogan 'Past. Present. Forever.'
  • New episodes will stream weekly; Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe return

The wait is finally over – Outlander season 8 will release on Starz and MGM+ March 7, 2026.

Sadly, season 8 is the final installment of the hit TV show, but that doesn't mean it isn't going away without a few more twists and turns. According to the official synopsis, "Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence.

"With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together.

"While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun."

Intrigue! While this synopsis gives us our first understanding of where the season is going, I think the fact Outlander will air next March gives us another huge clue for what's coming next.

Opinion: Outlander season 8's release date could mean a full Blood of My Blood crossover

Think about it. Prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood wrapped up in October, with a second season confirmed before any episode had even aired. We follow Claire and Jamie's parents in the series, and it was always assumed that their adult selves might have unknowingly met her parents while time-travelling.

However, cameo appearances from Balfe and Heughan never happened, but I think we've been looking in the wrong place. It's much more likely that Henry (Jeremy Irvine), Julia (Hermione Corfield), Brian (Jamie Roy), and Ellen (Harriet Slater) will be seen in the main series.

How do I know this? When I spoke to Irvine and Corfield shortly after Outlander: Blood of My Blood episode 1, they were busy filming for the show's second season. Pushing Outlander season 8's release back to March 2026 (season 7 dropped in January 2025) means shooting schedules could either be aligned or crossed over.

We're expecting Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 to be released in late 2026, so anything potential storyline ties Outlander season 8 could offer makes perfect sense. After season 8 is done, it's left to Blood of My Blood to carry on with the franchise mantle... and are we really ready to let Jamie and Claire go fully?

For now, this is all speculation. But if Outlander season 8 has a pleasant surprise for us, don't say I didn't tell you.
