According to our meticulous price tracking, this massive discount is just £5 off their previous record low from John Lewis in January of 2025, when they very briefly dropped to £194 – but that was only available to My John Lewis members and required an extra sign-up if you weren't already a member. Oh, and a special code to enter at checkout. Bit of a faff.
But this deal? Why, all you need do is click the link, friend…
The best Sony WH-1000XM5 early Black Friday deal I've seen
If you've been eyeing up the Sony WH-1000XM5 but have been put off by the admittedly high price tag (I've listed their original RRP, although they've been hovering around £259 for a little while), then today's your lucky day. These premium headphones have just dropped below £200 and for that money, they're an excellent buy. Top ANC, great comfort, Sony sound quality. Someone's Christmas present might just have been sorted…
One thing to note on this deal: the headphones will come with the soft case, rather than the hard-shell option. But I doubt many of us will mind, no? Not for this money – and they sound so good they'll spend most of their time over your actual ears rather than in your bag.
With a slick, understated design, peerless ANC and superb sound, the Sony WH-1000XM5 are just too easy to recommend at this incredible price. Our Sony WH-1000XM5 review is the place to go for an in-depth explanation on why we gave these premium over-ears a full five stars out of five, even at the pretty steep RRP. In short though (because time is of the essence, you're right), think class-leading noise cancellation, great comfort and a 'don't talk to me' big over-ear design.
If you want Sony's flagship offering but really need to save even more money (and go a little retro on a modern classic design), the older WH-1000XM4 are down to just £149 over at EE, but for just slightly more I'd really recommend these.
One last thing: the XM5 are the September 2022-issue model in Sony's current lineup – it's the next-generation Sony WH-1000XM6 you'll see at the very top of our best headphones guide, although the design is very similar. But you'll also have to pay a lot more for those – and a quick glance at the five-star rating we gave the excellent XM5 is all you need to know on whether or not they're still a great buy.
