Experienced runners will tell you that not all headphones and earbuds are created equal. If you regularly pound the streets, you'll care about more than just sound. Maybe a comfortable fit and the ability to hear your surroundings clearly are just as important to you.
For that, you'll need some of the best bone conduction headphones around. Let me therefore introduce you to the 4.5-star Shokz OpenRun Pro, which are on sale at Amazon for $124.95 (was $179.95).
This generous discount sees them return to the same record-low price we were treated to earlier this year. At this price, they're ideal for a little personal treat or as a Christmas present for a loved one who's into fitness.
Today’s best Shokz OpenRun Pro deal
Despite being superseded by the Pro 2, we'd still highly recommend the first-generation Shokz OpenRun Pro, especially at this record-low price. With a perfect blend of bone conduction technology and an open-ear design, you'll be able to hear what's going on around you while still enjoying your favorite music or podcast. It's a limited-time deal, though, so don't hang around if you're keen.
In our Shokz OpenRun Pro review, we rated the bone conduction headphones an impressive 4.5 stars, with the only cons being some noticeable vibrations and the fact that they're more expensive than the non-Pro version. Minor downsides, we feel. In fact, we said they were “the best bass of any bone conduction headset we’ve tested.”
The headphones deliver excellent sound quality and have a super-handy quick-charge function, which means five minutes of charge gives you 90 minutes of use. A full charge provides up to 10 hours of playback. That means they'll never be out of action for long.
The Shokz OpenRun Pro haven't yet made it into our best wireless headphones guide, but if there were a category for the best headphones for runners, then they'd definitely be considered. Despite that, if you want an excellent active listening experience and the unique bone conduction tech, it doesn't get much better than this.
