LLoyds Tour of Britain 2025 race preview

This year's race begins with two gently undulating stages on the roads of Suffolk before taking on the equally arduous terrain of Bedfordshire for the third of three sprint stages into Ampthill.

Stage four although predominantly flat ends with three ascents of the 700-metre climb through Burton Dassett Country Park which could shake up the general classification if the race leaders don’t pay attention, but stage five is the one that should decide the race.

Taking on the tough slopes of the famous Tumble not once as it did in 2014 but twice it's here on this 5 kilometre climb that those who want to win will have to be at their very best. The race then wraps up with a final stage into Cardiff which will be a grand farewell for the legend that is Geraint Thomas, could he?

Favourite for the overall win must surely be double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) but will he have the climbing legs to match Scotland’s Oscar Onley on the Tumble? Fully recovered from his fourth place in this year’s Tour de France, Onley is the home favourite and would love to win on British soil so all eyes will be on him. Also keep an eye on Matthew Brennan who has had a fantastic season and will be in the mix to win the first four stages.
