Mario will be green with envy at his brother’s new Mach 8 Mario Kart Lego set — and I desperately want it too

It might be MAR10 day, but his green-clad brother is receiving some love too, as Lego just debuted the Luigi & Mach 8 Mario Kart set.

Built using 2,234 pieces, this premium build should look like the perfect (friendly) rival to the 1,972-piece Mario & Standard Kart Mario Kart build Lego already offers — though with flames spewing out the back of his Mach 8, I suspect Luigi might have the edge in this particular static competition.

He also has the edge in pricing, meaning his set (which is bigger than Mario's piece-wise) costs $179.99 / £159.99 compared to Mario's $169.99 / £149.99 Kart price. Though price aside, I’d definitely opt for the Mach 8 over Mario and his standard kart.

While more distinctively Mario Kart, Mario’s standard design feels a little more boring and static. Meanwhile, his brother’s kart has a fiery engine, a bolder kart shape, and a much better price-per-piece ratio.

The only downside is that you have to wait. Luigi and his Mach 8 won’t race onto the scene until April 1, though preorders are open now. If you’re after something sooner to celebrate MAR10 today, then you’ll want to browse the other Lego Mario deals I've highlighted below.
