It's surreal to think that, at the time of this article's latest update, Supergirl is just over a month away from being released. Indeed, with the DC Universe (DCU) movie set to take flight in theaters on June 26, we don't have long to wait for one of 2026's most exciting new movies to arrive.

Ahead of launch, then, I imagine you want to know more about the forthcoming flick. You can read more about it in my dedicated Supergirl guide but, if you only want to know more about its cast and the characters they'll portray, this is the place you need to be.

Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl

After being chosen to play the DCU's Supergirl in January 2024, Alcock will play Kara Zor-El in the superhero's first big screen adventure for over 40 years.

Alcock made her DCU debut via an amusing cameo at the end of last year's Superman film. That 30-second appearance was all I needed to have full confidence in the DCU's Supergirl film, too.

Anyway, for those unfamiliar with Supergirl, she's the biological cousin of Kal-El/Clark Kent, aka Superman. The only other Kryptonian to survive the destruction of their homeworld, Kara was forced to watch Krypton's demise — a traumatic event that means she's more cynical, rebellious, and world-weary than Supes. Those traits belie her true nature, though, with Kara being just as compassionate as Kal-El and having an equally strong sense of justice to boot.

Superpowers-wise, Kara has an identical skillset to Superman. This includes, but isn't limited to, superhuman strength, speed, endurance, agility, X-ray vision, heat vision, freeze breath, accelerated healing factor, and the ability to fly.

As for Alcock, her big break came in season 1 of House of the Dragon, i.e. the first Game of Thrones prequel to air on HBO Max. Last seen in Netflix's Sirens, Alcock has also appeared in other shows including Upright, The Gloaming, and Reckoning.

Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll

Another rising star, Ridley will have a large supporting role in this DCU Chapter One movie. She'll portray Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young warrior who seeks Supergirl's help to track down and exact revenge on the man who killed Ruthye's family.

Supergirl's first image showed Kara in a place that'll be very familiar to DC comic book fans. Indeed, it's the location where the pair meet in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, so it's likely that they'll meet in the same locale in this film.

Like Alcock, Ridley made a name for herself in a highly-anticipated TV project – that being, Netflix's 3 Body Problem, the live-action adaptation of Liu Cixin's mind-bending book trilogy. Ridley's working relationship with the world's best streaming service will continue apace, too, with the starlet reportedly set to voice a character in season 2 of the R-rated animated show Blue Eye Samurai.

Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem

Known as Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain who'll be played by Schoenaerts is a space pirate who's responsible for murdering Ruthye's father in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Based on the footage we've seen of him, including his debut in Supergirl's first trailer, he'll looks much different to his more human form in the aforementioned comic book series, too. Nonetheless, Krem is a skilled hand-to-hand and long-range combatant, so he won't be a pushover, even for someone as physically powerful as Kara Zor-El.

Another actor with a Netflix association, Schoenaerts is arguably best known for being part of the cast of 2020's The Old Guard and its 2025 sequel. The Belgian actor has also appeared in films including Loft, Bullhead, Rust and Bone, and Amsterdam.

Jason Momoa as Lobo

The first actor to appear as different characters in the DCU and the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Jason Momoa has traded in his Aquaman role to play a fan-favorite anti-hero in this rebooted cinematic franchise.

The sole survivor of a near-immortal alien race know as the Czarians, Lobo traverses the cosmos as a motorcycle-riding mercenary. A skilled marksman, Lobo also possesses superhuman strength, stamina, agility, and reflexes. He can also heal rapidly and, depending on which era of DC Comics you read, has genius-level intellect.

Lobo was supposed to appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow — author Tom King confirmed this in a February 2023 interview with comicbook.com — but was eventually cut from the story. However, to honor that original idea, Lobo will have a supporting role role here, with Gunn previously explaining why Lobo is now a vital part of Supergirl's plot.

His time as Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DCEU notwithstanding, Momoa has starred in numerous big name projects, including the billion dollar-spinning A Minecraft Movie, Dune, Game of Thrones, Stargate: Atlantis, and See. He also co-created, executively produced, and starred in Chief of War on Apple TV.

David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Zor-El and Alura In-Ze

As the name of Krumholtz's character implies, he and Beecham will portray Kara's parents. They'll show up in flashbacks showcasing Krypton's destruction and the aftermath of the planet's ruination, which will help to establish Kara's current worldview.

Best known for his role in The Santa Claus franchise, Krumholtz has also appeared in flicks including 10 Things I Hate About You, the Harold and Kumar movie series, and Oppenheimer. On the TV front, he recently featured in season 2 of acclaimed Peacock TV Original Poker Face and in season 1 of the multi-award-winning Apple TV Original The Studio.

Meanwhile, Beecham will be familiar to fans of Netflix's genre-bending 1899 TV show, as well as other small-screen projects like Into the Badlands, The Village, King and Conqueror, and The Pursuit of Love. Film-wise, her most notable performance came in 2017's Daphne, which Beecham was nominated for numerous awards for.

Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll

A relatively recent addition to Supergirl's cast — according to his page on Conway Van Gelder Grant agency website — Kingsley will play Elias Knoll, aka Ruthye's father. Like Krumholtz and Beecham, he'll feature in flashback sequences, which we catch a glimpse of in Supergirl's main trailer.

Last seen in Netflix's adaptation of The Sandman as Hob Gadling, Kingsley has also appeared in season 2 of Prime Video's Reacher adaptation, season 1 of Apple TV show Silo, and the David Fincher-directed Netflix film Mank.

Diarmaid Murtagh as Drom Baxton

As first reported by Deadline, Murdagh will portray Drom Baxton. Another space pirate and second-in-command to Krem, Baxon is likely a stand-in for the leader of intergalactic mercenary group that Krem joins after his first encounter with Kara and Ruthye in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Known for his roles in Vikings, The Monuments Men, Dracula Untold, Outlander, and The Tourist, the Irish actor's next project — outside of Supergirl, anyway — will be action-thriller The Butler.

Ouzo the dog as Krypto the Superdog

Another character who made their DCU debut in Superman, Krypto the Superdog is part of Supergirl's cast. As the latter film's trailer show, he'll be severely injured by Krem, which also happens in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Don't expect Krypto to have a substantial role in proceedings, then.

A fully CGI character, Kara's loyal canine companion is based on Gunn's own dog Ouzo. A mischievous rescue dog, Ouzo is often namechecked by Gunn as the main inspiration for 2025's Superman. Indeed, Gunn has regularly recounted the tale of how Ouzo was his way-in during Gunn's struggle to come up with the story for the Man of Steel's latest cinematic adventure.

David Corenswet as Kal-El/Superman

With Alcock indicating Supes would appear in Supergirl later December, this film's two official trailers officially confirmed Corenswet will have a bit-part role in the second DCU Chapter One movie.

Prior to his casting as Clark Kent, Corenswet appeared in Pearl, Twisters, The Politician, We Own This City, and Hollywood among others. However, his star rose rapidly following his casting and, later, lead role in the Man of Steel's latest big-screen adventure. He'll next show up in Man of Tomorrow, aka the sequel to last year's Superman movie. For more on that project, find out what we know so far about Man of Tomorrow.
