Netflix
Netflix is undoubtedly the most important name in streaming. The company, which started out as a mail-order DVD service in the late ‘90s, completely upended the traditional media industry when it launched an online streaming service in 2007 and remains the biggest player in the space today.
As a pioneer in streaming, it’s no wonder that it boasts the highest subscriber numbers, biggest global reach and greatest volume of original content compared to its many competitors, which include Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video. Netflix has some of the best movies and TV shows on its platform, and is constantly adding more.
Netflix was launched by co-founders Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997. Hastings is now executive chairman, with Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters the co-CEOs.
