The Kindle is officially the best selling product on Amazon.co.uk, with the company confirming in its financial results that its ebook reader is top of its charts.

The UK Kindle store launched in August, and a major advertising campaign over the latest Kindle device appears to have spurred the nation into action.

"In our financial results this evening, we announced that Kindle is the number one bestselling product on Amazon.co.uk." stated Amazon.

Quarterly success

"In the twelve weeks following the introduction of the new generation of Kindles, customers ordered more Kindle devices on Amazon.co.uk than any other product," it added.

There were also some interesting details given about which books have sold best, with the company name-checking Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, Tony Blair's A Journey and Sister by Rosamund Lupton.

In the free books, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's sublime The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Tea by Tom Reynolds are all doing well.

Selection

"Amazon.co.uk launched its UK Kindle Store at the beginning of August with the biggest selection and lowest prices of any ebookstore in the UK, added Amazon.

"Since then a further 50,000 titles have been added taking the total to over 450,000. There are also more than 1 million free books that can be downloaded and read on Kindle."

Although the company has not released the full sales figures on how many Kindles have been sold in the UK, it does appear that ebook readers are becoming more mainstream.
