Amazon has finally announced the dates for Prime Day - the yearly two-day sales bonanza held by the retailer.

Amazon Prime Day 2022 is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13, the retailer divulged in a press release this morning. You don't have to wait until next month for some bargains, though, as a small selection of early Prime Day deals will start from June 21. These include up to 55% off select Amazon devices, up to 50% off its Fire TV range, and more offers from big-name brands including Shark, Samsung, and Bosch. Many of Amazon's additional subscription services – including Music Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited and Audible – will also be free to use for new subscribers for up to four months.

We originally predicted that this year's deals mega-event would be held on July 11 and 12. Not a bad guess considering we were just one day off. The retailer pulled a surprise move and shifted the sale back one day from its usual Monday and Tuesday time frame. This year's Prime Day is also set to take place slightly earlier in the month once more – a return to the more usual time scale after the previous two events moved to June and October following disruption due to the pandemic.

With the main event just a few weeks away, then, it’s almost time for us to bring you the very best offers on everything from laptops, TVs and games consoles to homeware, fashion and fitness products from the thousands of Prime Day deals up for grabs. We'll round up the best discounts across all these categories and more in our dedicated sales hubs so you don’t miss out on the action when they go live for Prime members from midnight on July 12 in your local time.

While Prime Day is designed for customers who are signed up for the Amazon Prime subscription service, a handful of deals are made available to all. That means even if you aren't willing to part with the membership fee you could still bag a discount or freebie next month. Of course, the very best will be exclusive to Prime members.

Luckily, if you've not signed up before, the retailer has a handy 30-day free trial for its Prime service. Redeem that today and it will cover you all the way through this year’s early Prime Day sales, the main Prime Day event and beyond. You also get immediate access to a number of other Amazon Prime benefits, including speedy same-day or next-day delivery, Amazon’s best Prime Video shows, Prime Gaming and a whole host more extras. Remember, if you don't want the service to continue after Amazon Prime Day, make sure to cancel during or after Prime Day so you avoid paying any unwanted fees.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: what deals to expect

As for the deals we expect to see on Prime Day – which has grown to resemble something close to Black Friday and Cyber Monday in recent years – the best discounts are typically on Amazon’s own products.

This means it's the best time of the year to buy tech such as Echo smart home gadgets, Kindle readers, Fire tablets, Ring security devices and so on as they will be up to 55% off. Amazon also confirmed that its range of Fire TV smart TVs will be on offer with prices starting from as low as $89.99.

Deals on major brands such as Samsung, Sony, Bose, SharkNinja will also feature. Amazon promises up to 50% off and that some of the products from these manufacturers will be down to their lowest prices ever.

That being said, we occasionally see deals on higher-ticket items from major brands such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Nintendo and Sony on everything from laptops, TVs, games consoles and smartwatches. Though, naturally, these tend to sell out fast.

All Prime Day deals generally run across both days – July 12 and 13 this year – but Amazon will sometimes drop limited-time and limited stock lightning discounts. We’ll have the low-down on all the best deals when they do go live next month, so stay tuned to TechRadar for the details.

If you want to make a start right now, check out the Prime stamp card that's available to US customers. By completing four simple tasks you can get a free $10 voucher to spend on Amazon Prime Day. It's an easy way to save even more money this July.
