I can’t recommend the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones at full price – but at SG$120 off for Prime Day, they've got my blessing

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones have been one of 2025’s most anticipated product launches. It’s easy to see why, as the electronics giant has had certified hits with its previous two generations of these over-ear headphones – both of which are still on sale and with generous Prime Day discounts – but if you want the absolute best, the pinnacle of premium headphones, the XM6s are the way to go.

They launched just two months ago, in mid-May, to critical acclaim, not just from us but from critics everywhere. You can of course read our Sony WH-1000XM6 review to find out exactly why we love them so much.

At full price, however, even I had to wince. As good as they are, I don’t personally think they offer a big enough leap over their predecessors to be good value at their normal price. However, with Amazon Singapore offering a SG$120 discount for Prime Day, that's a big enough saving to change my mind.

The absolute best when it comes to noise cancelling over-ear headphones right now, the Sony XM6s are nothing short of incredible. Ushering in not just ANC upgrades over their predecessor but sonic ones too, they make full use of brand-new drivers for a wonderfully balanced sound profile. A huge discount for a product so new, we can’t guarantee this one will be around forever.

They were always going to need to be something special to topple the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones as the top premium pick in our list of the best noise cancelling headphones, but the Sony WH-1000XM6s have managed it. Thanks to a combination of 12 microphones (four more than in the XM5s) and a new QN3 processor, these Sony cans are able to cancel out an obscene amount of external noise. What’s more, they use the mics to help deliver crystal-clear voice quality on calls too.

Elsewhere they’re packed with features, including LDAC and DSEE Extreme, which both work to deliver the best possible sound to your ears, and there are also a range of EQ options, including a new Cinema mode for more immersive audio. Auracast support is also onboard.

And for anyone wishing Sony didn’t ditch the folding design for the XM5s will be pleased to know the XM6s have brought it back, making them more travel-friendly in the process. Plus, the case is a solid thing with a magnetic clasp, a feature I wish more headphone manufacturers would adopt.

All in all, they’re a superb set of headphones, made even more appealing by this significant price drop.
