The First Snow of Fraggle Rock is the kid-friendly festive special that Apple TV needs – and it's got the makings of being a Christmas classic
Dance your cares away this Christmas with Jim Henson's cutest creations
You can't beat a good puppet show, and Fraggle Rock is a really good puppet show. I'm delighted, then, to see it returning for a Christmas special on Apple TV.
The First Snow of Fraggle Rock, which is available now on one of the world's best streaming services, is a family-friendly movie that packs a lot of fun into its 34-minute runtime.
If you're not familiar with The Fraggles, they're from the same stable as The Muppets, but are aimed at younger viewers. That said, there's plenty of fun for grown-ups, too, with adults and kids alike getting a kick out of whatever these cutesy individuals get up to.
This is our third Apple trip to Fraggle Rock following the shorts-based series Fraggle Rock: Rock On! in 2020 and Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock in 2022. The 1980s originals are also available on the tech giant's streaming platform, too, so the fun doesn't have to stop after you've watched this festive-themed special and its aforementioned predecessors.
What is The First Snow of Fraggle Rock about?
It's about half an hour. Ho ho!
I kid, of course. If you're wondering what to expect from it, here's an official press blast from Apple: "The Fraggles eagerly await the first snow of the season and all the traditions it brings. But, when only a single snowflake arrives and Gobo can’t write the yearly holiday song everyone is expecting, the season is thrown off course.
"For the first time ever, Gobo journeys to the human world, or as the Fraggles refer to it: Outer Space, to find some unexpected musical inspiration. And, in another first, back at the Gorgs’ castle, Junior is overwhelmed by the arrival of a new baby Gorg joining the family. This holiday season, the Fraggles and Gorgs learn that beautiful moments aren’t always perfect – but, they can be as unique and memorable as snowflakes."

I haven't watched this one yet – I'm saving it for the holidays – but the reviews are looking good. Sure, Fraggle Rock doesn't have the anarchic madness of The Muppets or the variety of Sesame Street, but it's still fun and fluffy entertainment designed to take your cares away and leave you in a good mood.
According to Sparkly Pretty Bright, "while Christmas isn’t expressly mentioned at any point, The First Snow of Fraggle Rock feels very Christmassy in look, word and deed... [it's] full of the kind of seasonal spirit we all need at any time of the year, but especially at the most wonderful time of the year when expectations are high and we just need to remember that, however it all turns out, it will be perfectly lovely and just what we need at the time."
It's going down well on Reddit, too, with viewers on the Apple TV sub-Reddit saying Apple's done a "great job of reviving Fraggle Rock", and that the "puppetry and set designs [are] impeccable."
All of this is to say: I didn't need further convincing to watch it, but I definitely will be now.
