In contrast, it's slim pickings for the film fans among you. There are a couple of new movies worth checking out on Apple and Paramount's streaming platforms, though, so at least you won't be a total loss before Monday rolls around. Almost exactly a year after its forebear arrived, Slow Horses season 5 has landed – and it wastes no time throwing us back into the chaos lifted straight from Mick Herron's books.

In the latest installment, London is under threat, Slough House itself is compromised and, with the team’s system breached, there are more than 5,000 potential targets to investigate. With the clock ticking, can this ragtag group of spies stop the next crisis before it’s too late?

The show is a standout among the seven new Apple TV+ movies and series debuting in September, largely thanks to Gary Oldman’s unforgettable portrayal as the grumpy, foul-mouthed Jackson Lamb. So, check out the full show on Apple TV+ now. – Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor

Marvel Zombies (Disney+)

It only took 17 years, but Marvel has finally delivered a fully R-rated (that's 18+ for anyone outside of the US) project, one that's set in a different reality to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), for fans to enjoy in all its gory glory.

A continuation of the story told in season 1 episode 5 of Disney+ animated anthology series What If...? – an entry titled 'What If... Zombies!?' – this Marvel Phase 6 TV show follows a new group of superheroes as they desperately try to put an end to the zombie plague that's turned their world in a dystopia.

With the likes of Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel and Shang-Chi placed front and center of a gratuitously violent story, Marvel Zombies had the potential to be one of the best Disney+ shows of 2025. To find out if the four-part program lives up to the hype, read my Marvel Zombies review. – TP

House of Guinness (Netflix)

Peaky Blinders fans, this one's for you. From Steven Knight, the creator of the aforementioned Cillian Murphy-starring historical drama, this new Netflix TV Original follows the Guinness family as they navigate not only the death of their beloved patriarch Benjamin, but also feud over who should own and run his alcoholic beverage empire. Think Succession meets Peaky, and you'll have an idea of what lies in store from a plot perspective.

At the time of writing, House of Guinness has been well-received by critics, but audiences are yet to have their say. Let's hope it's a limited series that's been poured just right, then. – TP

Hotel Costiera (Prime Video)

Fancy escaping to the Amalfi Coast this weekend? Good news: you don't have to buy a plane ticket. Just stream this new Prime Video series and soak up the idyllic Mediterranean sights from your couch.

Set in a luxury hotel, the Amazon TV Original sees Jesse Williams (Gray's Anatomy; Only Murders in the Building) play a former US Marine returning to his hometown to take on the job of a fixer – and I don't mean the type that repairs wobbly tables. What begins as solving problems for wealthy guests quickly escalates when the hotel owner’s daughter is kidnapped.

Cue fast-paced action sequences along the picturesque winding streets of Italy with plenty of stylish intrigue. Early reviews are describing this as a breezy mystery that makes for an easy weekend binge. – AS

All of You (Apple TV+)

I recommend keeping a box of tissues handy for this one. The new romantic drama All of You is already being hailed as a tearjerker based on early reviews from its limited theatrical run.

The film follows two best friends who’ve known each other since college, caught in a classic will-they-won’t-they dilemma, with a sci-fi twist. In this world, a matchmaking test determines your lifelong partner, but what happens when you start questioning fate?

All of You marks the feature directorial debut of William Bridges (Black Mirror, Stranger Things), who co-wrote the script with Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso season 4, Shrinking season 3). – AS

Alice in Borderland season 3 (Netflix)

Watch On

It's finally time to step back into the Borderland, with Alice in Borderlands season 3 arriving on Netflix after a three-year wait. This time, it's slightly shorter with two less episodes than the usual eight, but the stakes are higher than ever.

After escaping at the end of last season, Usagi and Arisu are pulled back into a limbo-like Tokyo after the final card (the Joker) is revealed, forcing them into another round of deadly games.

Based on the hit Japanese manga, the live-action adaptation has been a major hit. Season 3 takes things in a bold new direction, with an original story co-written by returning showrunner Shinsuke Sato. Expect thrilling, inventive new games, and more heart-stopping twists you won't want to miss. – AS

Novocaine (Paramount+)

Watch On

After last week's premiere of Tulsa King season 3, Paramount+ books a spot on our streaming recommendations list for the second week running with this comedy-action vehicle.

Starring The Boys' Jack Quaid and Prey's Amber Midthunder, Novocaine sees the former's character Nathan embark on a one-man quest to save the latter's Sherry after she's take hostage by some bank robbers. The twist in this tale? Nathan can't feel pain, so he's at least partly equipped to deal with the physical damage he'll endure as he attempts to rescue his co-worker.

A breezy and fun-filled R-rated flick, Novocaine was a hit with critics and general audiences earlier this year, so those of an action genre persuasion will definitely want to pump it into their veins this weekend. – TP
