We’ve heard rumors that Motorola was preparing to launch a new high-end flagship phone called the Motorola Edge Plus, and now it appears that the upcoming handset could be joined by a second, slightly less premium flagship called simply the Motorola Edge.

The new phone has surfaced in images leaked to XDA developers, and they suggest the Edge will boast premium features including a ‘waterfall’ curved-edge display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

The images also suggest that, like the Edge Plus, the Motorola Edge will feature three rear cameras arranged vertically, while a shot of the phone’s settings menu seems to confirm that these will comprise a 64-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera, and 8-megapixel telephoto camera.

The cameras are one area where we’d expect the Edge Plus to outgun the Edge, with rumors suggesting the Edge Plus will get a 108PM main camera.

It also looks like Motorola will join the growing list of manufacturers to include a display with a high refresh rate option, with the Edge set to feature a 90Hz mode if another settings image is to be believed.

As with other models that support high-refresh-rate displays, like the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Razer Phone 2, is appears that users will be able to choose between the standard 60Hz refresh rate, or enable 90Hz for a more silky-smooth experience.

Supposed specs

It looks like Motorola has opted for an optical under-display fingerprint scanner this time around, as there doesn’t appear to be a capacitive scanner on the back of the phone. The images also show two speakers at the top and bottom of the device, allowing for stereo sound, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD slot for expandable storage.

According to the source, the Motorola Edge will be powered by a Snapdragon 765 SoC, and will come packing 16GB of RAM and a powerful 4,500mAh battery. It’s unclear as to whether the handset (or the Edge Plus) will include 5G connectivity, however.

While leaked photos don't prove the existence of a device, these look pretty convincing, and we're cautiously optimistic about what to expect from Motorola's upcoming flagship phone/phones – we'll bring you more details as and when we get them.
