Thanks to The Hurt Locker, which won 'Best Picture' at the 82nd Academy Awards, Kathryn Bigelow broke a huge record by becoming the first woman to win the Oscar for 'Best Director'.

Bigelow's war drama gives an insight to one of the most dangerous tasks in combat: disarming bombs. Set during the Iraq War, sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner) takes over as the leader of an elite US bomb disposal team, but adopts a very different approach to team leadership.

His disregard for protocol takes the rest of his team by surprise, especially his subordinates Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) and Eldridge (Brian Geraghty), who fear that James' actions will get them killed. Struggling to reason with their new leader, James' actions cause a chaotic spiral.
