India vs Bangladesh: preview
Fresh from a thumping seven-wicket victory over Pakistan at the weekend, India will look to continue their excellent start to the World Cup with another dominant performance. The hosts have been sensational on home soil, having also beaten Australia by six wickets and Afghanistan by eight wickets.
Expertly led by coach Rahul Dravid, India’s bowlers have shared the wickets with Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja each claiming five wickets, while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has eight. With the bat, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both averaging more than 70 so far in the tournament.
While India have excelled in all areas, it’s been a tough time so far for Bangladesh who after defeating Afghanistan were comprehensively beaten by England and New Zealand. However, they will take some confidence from their recent performances against the hosts, having beat them last month in the group stage of the Asia Cup group stage and won last year’s ODI series 2-1.
For Bangladesh to have any chance of victory against India they will need their star performers to step up. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has taken just two wickets in three games but can be lethal in this format of the game, while influential captain Shakib Al Hasan has struggled with injuries and has yet to find his groove with bat or ball.
Line-ups
India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj.
